lowering seat for short people

I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with short legs but have I have not seen the answer to my question.

Are the bikes built in such a way that I could build some extension links to lower the rear monoshock? The roughest thing the bike will see is my driveway and I'm light so I am unconcerned with travel.

I know they are available aftermarket for the Japanese bikes.

Just in case you were wondering; yes, my legs are long enough to touch the ground when I'm standing on them, it's only when astradle a bike that they fail to reach terra firma.

Hi Tim

No, there are No Aftermarket Kits to lower these bikes. There are not really any aftermarket parts for them as of yet, made by any of The Major Manufacturers anyway. The parts & changes that have been made on this site so far have been Fabricated by the Owners. There aren't that many kits for The Big 4 that are made by major manufacturers anyway. There are some made by Independent Companies for The Big 4, but not yet for these bikes.

The frames & rear suspension are not all the same on every bike made. That being said, the major manufacturers will not make something that is here today and gone tomorrow. A lot of the aftermarket parts that I sell and some other dealers sell here took a lot of time to cross reference to older bikes so we know what will fit. In time there will be aftermarket parts for these bikes... but not until they are around for a while. A lot of companies that where around in the 70's & 80's are not today because of this and the bikes that where made in the 70's and not here today.

You could ABSOLUTELY lower the bike if you have some metal fab skills. Like already stated there are no "kits" avaliable, but you can MAKE anything work. Easiest way to lower the bike would be to fab a new top mount for the rear shock and then lower the front forks in the triple trees (easy adjustment with basic tools). Here's what I did to my rear shock. If you read all through the post, you'll get an idea of how to lower it. I started by fabing a new top mount to accomodate a longer shock. If you used the stock shock with a new mount, it would be considerably lower. Here's the link:

I dont know which bike you have, but I think the gy2 is lower then the gy5

This is one of my biggest concern,.... I am 5'8" and 135#... I have been restricted in the past because of seat heights before..

I would hate to order one and find out that I cant be comfortable riding one...

Is the gs2 smaller?....If so I think I can order one from same place...

What is the difference of the gy2 and gy5?....

and what are the true seat heights on both...

HELP!

I am about 5'9" with a 31" inseam. I can flat foot my GY2. I don't think the GY5 is much taller.

The gy2 is a little shorter, I don't know the exact height, it looks nicer, but has a smaller gas tank. I think also that it is discontinued from american lifan.

So what would be the biggest obstacle in lowering the bike?Is it the dogbone setup at the bottom or the upper shock mount or what?I might dig into it this weekend.I would like to retain the shock.It seems like just raising the upper shock mount by using new plates would suffice.

I think that would be your easiest method to accomplised your goal. Then sliding the forks up in the triple clamps too.

That should easily get your 1-1.5 inches lower.

What is the actual seat height for the gy5?

I went to local yamaha shop and sat on a xt250 and it was perfect...(little more than tip toed)

It is 31.9" (if I only had $4500)

Is the gy2 smaller... I read 32" off of hooper imports...

I wanna be comfortable on the bike...

gy5 33? or 34?

My understanding is the LF200 GY5 - has a seat height of 34", and the LF150 GY3 and LF200 GY2 have seat heights of 32".
