advice needed KLR
Hola, I know this not a Kawasaki forum but I have a question.
I found a KLR 650 2001 asking $1,400 with the aluminum panniers included. The problem, the guy told me he will change one valve (did not say which one) and doing the engine tuning. I am affraid the engine will need an overhaul wich could increase the price up to 400 bucks more. The price is negotiable but will call him to ask for more (miles) details. How much would you offer? Gracias

If this is the only known problem, you may be ok. My question would be, how many issues are there that you don't know about. If the bike has been mistreated to require a valve job, it could be the tip of the iceberg.

why only one valve... theres 4 of them... are the
other 3 ok or just hanging in there... get it cheaper & do the work yourself... At that prise i asume it's one of the older ones... the KLR has a small issue with the tention spring on the balancer shaft.... easy to sort out Google the "dohicky" mod.. It may have aready been done... ....

That is pretty inexpensive for a KLR. I'd be interested in more details on what engine work it will be receiving or requires, but even if it requires a top end rebuild, that's a pretty good price. All depends on the rest of the motorcycle however. It is hard to go wrong on a KLR. I have had four of them over the years, and I am sure there will be a fifth somewhere down the road LOL. Any pictures?

Perhaps he just meant that he wanted to do a valve adjustment (part of tuning) before selling it? At any rate, that is a really good price if he get's it running for you and it sounds half decent. Heck, the panniers and racks alone could be sold for $350 to $500 (CDN) depending on their brand and condition. I sold my panniers and racks this spring for $400 and they sold within a half hour of me listing them!
I love the KLR's, it's one bike I have never regretted getting. Heavy for any kind of real off road work, but more than adequate for everything else . I'd definitely check this one out closer if you get the opportunity! Last edited by MICRider; 11-07-2015 at 09:55 PM. Reason: spelling... Lol |
