Old New Guy in Alabama

Hello everyone. Glad to be here. Have been hanging out for awhile reading until I decided to order a Hawk. Have one on the way. Pretty excited about a new bike. It seems it doesn't matter what kind of bike I buy be it new or used I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Welcome! I'm the same way with getting bikes. I swear someone could give me a rust pile bike and I would be thrilled.

Thanks. Hope it will get here around first of next week. Q9 says up to three to seven days. The color I got was black. Never owned a black bike before. Just about ever other color. Even had a yellow Honda 750 back in the 70's. Cages still seem not to see me. Oh well maybe its the risk that keeps us riding.

Ok, some people think that black absorbs all the light rays and thus is heavier. Heavier is slower. While others think that all of the light rays provide additional energy which helps the Hawk “Cut” through the wind better and thus is faster than the other colors!

Soooo...use whichever theory works best for you!

I totally agree that black is the fastest color because it gives you a lower profile. Low = Faster.

The lower shipping frame was a little bent but other than that it looks pretty good. The cardboard wasn't torn up. As far as I can see there is no damage. I am really pleased so far. Going to start giving birth to the bike tomorrow. Take my time. Try and do it right. Get my VIN number and submit it to Q9 and get it plated.

I am putting the bike together outside in a metal building. I see you are in Florida and I bet you know how hot it is in the south right now. Midday outside in that building you can forget about it. That's for young guys. I'll get it done. Well you can't build a Hawk and make it easy. It won't run right and it will run slower. LOL.

Hawk Has Legs

Got the Hawk completed today. Changed the stock oil. Didn't look or feel too bad but sure smelled funny. Did three breakin burns. Nice little bike so far. I was really surprised how easily it fires up and smooth it runs. Its a tall bike. I think I could tie a chain to the house and first gear would easily pull it away. Goes through the gears really smooth and as some folks have said about neutral being a little notchie until it gets broke in I didn't have any problem. Only thing that took me awhile to get adjusted was the chain. It was extremely tight out of the crate. Last two bikes I had were shaft but I don't remember having this much problem. Don't think I ever really had it where I wanted it. Not a complaint on the Hawk thats just me. My preference has always been riding a whole lot and wrenching when I needed too.

Maybe an entertaining post considering how many people have semi assembled a Hawk would be the most stupid mistake they ever made. Not that I have one or anything.

Once you get about 500 miles on it she really loosens up. Shift will feel better and you will start to feel a little more increase in power.
It's a good idea to pull the stock chain off and soak it in a synthetic gear oil. These chain have no lubrication from the factory. Chain will last a lot longer.

Thanks for the info. Replacing the chain for an o-ring type will be my first purchase.
