Speedo/ Odometer probs???
Hi all, 06 Lifan 200gy-5, speedo/odometer not even close!! It seems to be reading 3 miles to every mile I ride if not more.. As far as I can tell my front tire is installed correctly... Does anyone know how to adjust this or is there even a way to adjust this? Next question, had my girlfriend tail me in the car, speedo on the bike says 40 mph just shifting into 5th gear, speedo in the car says 64mph (It's a Camry, I trust it.) I'm running a 17/46 gear combo and the bike moves, no problems there...I don't wanna to have to estimate/guestimate of how many miles and speed with having to do the math... You guy's have been awsome and made my china bike a very good experience and I rely on your help for this one...

These things vary quite a bit with speedo/odo accuracy. Mine was pretty close for the first 300 or so miles, then the speedometer began to read erratically (yes I lubed the cable). It would start out with an accurate mph reading for the first few miles, then read way too high (100 mph at hwy speed) although the odometer has always remained accurate. Odometer on mine is in km while the speedometer was in mph when it was working properly. The easiest thing to do if you want to check for accuracy of speedo and odo is to strap a gps to the handlebar.

You have a KPH speedo (max 140?). To convert miles to kms divide by 5 and multiply by 8. 40 miles gives you 64km. As far as I know the only difference in the drives is the size of the spindle hole, for USD and conventional forks. I have seen 3 different speedos, KPH, MPH and dual marked. The KPH one I saw had white numbers, and the MPH had yellow numbers, my dual marked one is the same.

Trailtech makes a cycle speedo.
You mount a magnet on the wheel and a pick-up to sense it, and the display. With a piece of chalk, you mark 1 full revolution of the front wheel, measure it, then enter the value into the speedo. The speedo takes care of the rest. With the various speedo problems of the chinabikes, this is one sure cure. Wouldnt it suck to get a speeding ticket because of a faulty or metric speedo? |

How exactly does the speedo cable work? Aren't most motorcycle speedo cables some what interchangable? ie. If I were to find a cable w/ hub from a Honda (mph) and swap it out with mine (kph) in theory that should work or does it convert inside the speedo housing?

On my Alpine/Jetmoto, I had alot of fun converting to MPH from the all KM speedo. It kept me busy and taught me a little bit of the metric system at the same time. :P

I the TrailTech cycle speedo a bicycle or motorcycle speedo? I'm thinking of just throwing a bike speedo on mine (magnetic pickup kind).

They make both.
I run a Cateye enduro on one of my bikes, it is technically a bicycle speedo, doesnt really matter until you hit it's max speed. With my bike's gearing, I never hit that. I'm sure the motorcycle units have higher max speeds. |

Ahh ok. I have an old Catseye on my mountainbike. Think I'll throw it on and see how she runs.

If the speedo were to be a KPH model, and the bike was actually going 64 MPH, wouldn't the KPH speedo read something like 101?

I have just re-read the post properly and I am confused!!! Its the changing into 5th gear bit, at 64mph? It must be screaming its nut off.
