lost a spoke!
The other day..when on a crappy road I heard metal clinking sound. Took little notice because of the tools I have jingling around. This morning when I did my pre ride walk around I noticed something very disturbing.
Looks like that clinking was the spoke being ripped out of there. The tire is still holding air, but the rim liner is visible. Probably been this way at least 100 miles after today's ride. This is probably why I should have made sure to check my spokes a long time ago and stay out of freakin woods. BUT. Can't I just glob some JB Weld over that hole and ride it?

Yeah, you have to stay on top of spoke maintenance. My Hawk is over 7 years old and never had a problem with any of the spokes. I've done a good bit of off road riding with it.

You really should try to replace it. You will put stress on the rest of the spokes and possibly break more, before you know it you will be replacing the whole wheel.

yeah, that looks like a rim failure at the spoke hole. You could try and use some epoxy/jb weld to keep it in place, but I doubt it would hold for long.

You would probably have a flat, if the inside piece of the spoke was still in the rims, you most likely have had the whole thing pull through the rim. I don't know what they are called, but they make a washer that's kinda cone, or cupped shape maybe you could use one to fix your rim, or maybe weld, or have someone weld the hole shut , using pretty low temperature, and re-drilling the hole.

Washer and JB Weld
I would remove the wheel, tire, and strap. Replace the spoke, and use the inverted cone looking washer , and maybe use some jb weld as well. The washer should be a fairly large outside diameter. Re wrap the rim, mount the tube and tire and off ya go laddy.

I am really surprised that the inner tube hasn't blown out that spoke hole. That could happen at any moment, especially if you add more air (pressure).
Did anyone "adjust" your spokes? That one may have been too tight! I agree that it appears that this is a rim failure. It looks like the nipple was pulled right through the rim leaving an enlarged spoke hole! You really need a new rear wheel. I doubt there is an off-the-shelf part (Nipple with wider base). Spokes are subject to pretty high tension and shock, and most people will just replace the rim. I've seen it done (washer) on bicycles. Maybe it will work out fine. But if not... An assembled rear wheel ready for rim strip, tube and tire is ~160. Lots of them show up on ebay.

I would look for a good aluminum aftermarket wheels like Tusk. The stock Hawk rims are thin and cheap.

Are they of much better quality? Or should I just buy the bearing and stuff from CSC and install them in the hawk rim? I want to keep it inexpensive but a worthy upgrade. I packed that spoke hole with old fashioned Jb Weld. I don't things are going to pop out there anytime soon! The spokes all seem tight, but I don't know. The bike doesn't feel any different on the highway, but I am going to stick to small roads without potholes until I can fix her.
