RX4 Oil Filter
Does anyone know my options for oil filter, is it limited to buying from CSC?
I saw that the RX3 has a metal re-usable option but the link is no longer working.. is the the same between RX3 and RX4? thanks

Yep, They're The Same
Yes, the RX3 and RX4 use the exact same oil filter. You can get them, as well as the reusable metal strainer types via AliExpress. CSC only sells the standard OEM single use filters. Be advised that for the most part it is not necessary to change the filter with every oil change. On both my RX3 and RX4, I only swap out the filter every fifth oil change; I haven't had any issues with either engine from doing so.

Just purchased the re-usable mesh filter.. and i did a quick search and see that some are using Rotella T4 15W40 in the RX3 and RX4 during break-in which is perfect.. I run that in the Brozz and i think T4 until the 5k mark and then T6 15W40 afterwards for both bikes would probably be a very good thing.. although the RX4 calls for 10W40, i am guessing the 15W40 wouldnt be an issue..

Oil threads and oil filter threads generate strong feelings. The only sure way to know if the oil and/or filter are doing their job is to send an oil sample out for analysis. I have used Blackstone Labs, $25 well spent. You'll get no BS answers to how long to run a given oil before it loses its effectiveness, as well as how well the filter is doing its job of screening hard bits out of the oil.

I run full synthetic 10w40 or 20w50 only in my rx4.. 15000+ miles in about 8 months of riding and the one time I did a valve adjustment (at 11k) it wasn't even needed.. remember valve clearance is a result of physical contact.. I wouldn't use anything except quality moto specific oil..not a catchall (rotella) oil that is primarily for engines. But then again, people actually use 3-1 body wash m, shampoo and conditioner lol

I dug around looking for a readily available oil filter. Couldn't find anything exact. K&n had one that was similar, but the rubber on the inlet was thinner.

I'd say get the re-usable metal one, should be a one time purchase and done, easy peasy and cheap

the problem with screens is it depends on the screen used screens can be made to pass only microns.... but those screens are expensive so they use bigger ones....
if you look closely at the metal screen oil filters it's easy to see the screen is fairly large and is not going to stop stuff a paper filter would ..... the idea is great ! I want one but with a small screen not a big one something that will filter the oil on par with the paper filter..... but you get no details on the screen at all so I would say stay away from them ! .... I am also thinking about switching to 20w60 oil at 10,000 miles in my RX4 as I am a true believer in thicker oil they call for 10w40 for the RX4 new.... but they do not tell you what to switch to at 50,000 miles and they should so you assume that you should stick with the 10w40 for life right ? WRONG ! to get extremely high mileage out of an engine you Must change the oil to a thicker oil to achieve the same metal separation in the engine..... there is no debate about this it's a known fact. as parts ware and the engine gets looser you need an oil that is thicker. simple.... I plan to go up in thickness as the bike wares in..... probably about 10,000 miles I will switch to valvoline 20w60 racing oil that might be a tad soon but I'd rather have thick oil on a hot day, than thin water like 10w40 on a hot day....any day of the week ! from 5,000 miles to 8,000 miles I may try to find 15w40 or 15w60 something like that .... i went with this stragity on my Toyota silica and achieved over 400,000 miles also did that with a toyota tercel with even more mileage.... but I could not find any thicker oil than 20W60 or it would still be running today as it was the rods started making noise so I parked it ! ..... Bikes ware out faster so the oil change is more important if your bike has 20,000 miles or more it's time to change to a thicker oil.....think about it ..... Full synthetic oil in a wet clutch is ill advised ! unless you don't mind your clutch slipping. .... Bob.........
