$4000 msrp for the GT250R is a bit steep but it is comparable to a jap 250 in the same class, only problem is, retail buyers with some knowledge would probably go with one of the big 4 at that price...If Hyosung has staying power and becomes a contender, who knows..Their design is nice...

Hyosung makes a lot of the smaller Suzuki engines and a few of the larger engines too. Suzuki's warrranty will not ever match Hyosung's {2 Year, Unlimited Milage} Standard Factory Warranty.

Two things I like about this bike is one; It doesn't look like a 250. Two; From what I've read, its a bigger bike when compared to a Ninja 250. Hence, nobody is going to think it's a women's bike.

Jeff,
Kinda ironic, I'm looking for a bike for the wife/girlfriend/slave driver and want a bike that I can ride too and not look like a guy riding a pink bike with daisy's painted on it (Shea's new paint scheme..J/K) and the GTR250 looks bad ass but it's expensive for a 250, I could buy my whole family China bikes for the price of this bike???

I'm hoping that one of these chinese bike manufacturers will copy the GT250R and sell it for under $3000. We've all been spoiled with the prices of our chinese enduros.

I know that we had this discussion not too long ago, but I think I would take the Hyosung over the Ninja 250. Actually, I would prefer the Hyosung "naked" 250 bike, and am disappointed that UM does not make their version without panels. However, the UM 650 GT "naked" gets the blood boiling, too.

I rode the GT250 Comet (Naked) a couple of times. I was VERY impressed. Great accelaration, handling and braking. I didn't care for the height and seating position. I'd get it over a Ninjette anyday, tho.

One of the guys who is a moderator on ChinaBikes Group lives and works in Korea most of the time. These bikes have been here for several years now, having been first imported by a company called Alpha Sports, then Hyosung, and now with UM. Having never seen one, but only from what I read, they seem great, and in my opinion, are more apt to becoming a "cult" classic then other 250 sport bikes.

I would strive for the hyosung or um 650 comet, but would settle for the 250 version if I had to.

I am happy (sort of) that I now have a UM dealer in town. I drove by, and saw that they had a UM 650 full fendered sport bike out front. The only problem with the store is that they are clueless. They also carry Diamo and Roketa and were quite clueless the last time I went in there a few months ago, so I can only imagine the pain I will go through in getting direct info about the UM dual-sport, or any of the UM bikes for that matter. However, I have to give them credit for carrying Chinese bikes.

Im still pist off at Kawasaki for not changing the 20yr old Ninja 250. They've had a nicer version in Canada for years now, but not in the states... If one of the big 4 were to make a bike like this, and sell it around $3800, they'd sell tons. Cost to make them is too high though, after all the R&D is done, it prob costs them the same to crank out a 600cc.
