electric start problems
My bike's electric start has started playing up, sometimes won't fire. I thought it might have been a fouled plug, but still happening with a new plug. Waiting on a service to get the valve's checked ( for the first time) 1800km on the clock. Can anyone suggest other remedies?

I had the same problem. I tried a new battery, doubling up the earth wire, and then I took the starter motor off. The chinese bikes have permanent field magnets and the stator in mine was very rough so I sanded it down smooth with an orbital sander, lubricated it with a teflon based thin oil and voila! No more starting problems Gomoto starts with the first press of the starter button even at 0 deg C

It sounds like you're saying that the starter works properly, so I'd certainly adjust the valves. They're almost always too tight from the factory.

If the starter is cranking the engine, but the later is not firing up, then it's not a started problem, but rather fuel (i.e. carburetor or valves), or electrical (i.e. plugs, CDI, coil, etc.).

when I try to start it now, I press the button and just get a click sound. I kick start it, run it for a bit, then if it stalls again, the starter button will work.
Thanks for all suggestions |

Your battery is dead (most probably!). Try charging it overnight and possibly replacing it.
If not, you may have alternator or rectifier failure (not very likely). You have to measure voltage level at battery connectors while the engine is running. The least probable cause is to have a current leak somewhere which discharges the battery while engine is not running. It happened to me twice - 1) I accidentally left the parking light on when locking the steering; and b) I forgot the ignition key on ON position overnight. |

I think it time to have the battery tested. Also make sure the connections are tight. If its the stock china battery its likely dying.

X3 on the battery. Is your bike equipped with an alarm? I don't trust them to not drain the battery.
