McQueen’s “I absolutely am not buying an additional Honda” thread

I look at porn online.
And by that, I mean I look at bikes for sale. When I’m absolutely happy with my daily driver. And my other daily driver. And my project bike that’s almost done. And my other project bike that… isn’t almost done but that I can think through in my head the steps and then BAM it is done.
Absolutely happy. I own awesome bikes.
But ya see…
There’s this little piece of Honda for sale just the other side of the river. It’s different. It’s flashy. Its… older, mature. Sure, the paint’s maybe a little faded. The shocks have probably seen some action. But she says she’s low mileage.
And tiny.
And cheap.
And has a title. HAS A TITLE. When you’re in your fifties, a title becomes important - Doctor, Lord or Lady, Earl…
So… I may just go take a look this AM.

It’s a gift, Jerry. A god-given gift.
It should have been given with a Tardis, to store all these Hondas…

I know the feeling. And the importance of a title. Lack of a title in Illannoy is a No Sale. Took me a while to figure that one out. Illannoy doesn't understand the phrase, "I'm willing to give you money for a title, but I'm not willing to give you that much money."

Ah, my good Cheesy man…
(which, I cannot believe I put those words together)
… what does Florida say on the subject? Haven’t you been spending time there lately? Surely when there’s a will there’s a way?

As for me, I’m too old to mess around with paperwork and the Vermont thing and all that. There are enough bikes that need saving that there are plenty that need a sugar daddy and that still have their birth certificates with them to prove that they’re over 18 and it’s ok for me to be breaking their hearts and tripping over their pistons.

I haven't looked into how FL does titles. I haven't been there since the fiasco in June and the rare times I am there anymore, I'm plotting my escape back to Illannoy. Too hot and too humid.

I held for years that I didn't care for Hondas. I preferred Kawasakis and Yamahas. I don't know what happened. Last year I had FOUR Hondas in the garage. Only one of which I could come up with a semi logical reason for buying. Down to three now as one went to a grandson.

Old Hondas are, I swear, like old chevys. You turn around and they have multiplied. Hopefully in a good way. It’s important to start with a good pair initially, otherwise you’re f*cked. If someone starts with… a CB360… it’s all downhill from there. Imagine ending up with a garage full of that crap. Waking up one day, walking out to the garage, looking around at everything, and asking yourself… how the hell did it all come to this?
When they could have just as easily started with… a CB350.

My goodness. This lady does not know how to sell an motorcycle.

Posted ad explains they are selling it because they are moving. Ok - I’m sympathetic to this… I certainly moved more than my share of times over the years.

She posted the ad Thursday. I contacted her Thursday. I was even willing to wander out that evening to go take a look. No - but I have time tomorrow morning. Ok, I’m actually working from home tomorrow morning.

And then nothing. Oh! Things got away from me. But I have time Saturday morning before I have to be at work! Fine, sure - send me the address in the AM and I’ll head over Saturday morning.

Nope.

Saturday afternoon, Oh, gosh, things were just chaotic, sorry about that. How about Tuesday morning? I’m not working Tuesday?

It’s almost like a reverse Craigslist scam or something.

Never attribute to malice what can more easily be explained by simple incompetence.
I once replied to a fresh for sale ad only to be told the seller couldn't meet me because he was leaving for a week's vacation. To help recover from how he fell and hit his head I guess? And actually not the only time I've run into such foolishness.

Ah yes, having too many bikes....and still surfing porn. I do it every morning with my coffee. What's worse is I have an enabler. My brother who has the same addiction, (or God-given gift, as McQueen so eloquently states). We live three hours apart, but thanks to the magic of the internet, it's like having the little devil on one shoulder whispering bad things in my ear, with no little angel on the other to help dissuade me from poor decisions.

Titles.....or lack thereof, is a real problem here in CA, as well. As opposed to Illanoy, the CA DMV doesn't care how much money you throw at them, it's all about making you beg and grovel, while making a person wade through a mountain of forms, plus multiple visits (with said motorcycle on a trailer) to DMV and the CHP for VIN verifications.
It's actually far easier to buy something from out-of-state and have it titled, than it is to buy a titleless bike in-state. Oh....and if the bike is still in the DMV system, you are on the hook for all back fees, plus penalties. It's a true joy.

Oh, I’m… not going to mess with something that isn’t titled unless I’m wholly prepared to just go bury it in the desert, or see it cut up and melted down into raw liquid goodness.

And I have an absolute partner in bad influences in this. We are always sending each other the worst of ideas - when we both literally have project bikes on a work bench in the garage. In fact, now that I think about it, we might each have two. Does t stop us from sending the dumbest of ideas as links. Dumbest. Dummmmmmbest.

Honestly, there should be a section here, Did you see this dumb idea? where folks can share the absolutely horrible but feasible links for things they find online, and share the bad influence.

Seriously - not buying that one. Didn’t hear back from the seller, and I was being a good, patient boy… and then the posting changes to sold. Kind of an eggplant move on their part, but life is full of eggplants.
