200 Hi-bird Help.

New to this bike and site. I do not have much experience with bikes, but some with cars. I bought this bike for $300 and it did not run at all.

Right now I cannot make it start but I will give you the rundown and hopefully someone can help.

I replaced the spark plug and the carb. Right now the airbox is off. I adjusted the throttle needle up one notch from the middle. The bike started pretty quick after these things but would not idle unless the choke was almost on full choke. Let it idle for about 10 minutes with choke on, then rode around the block for a couple minutes still close to full choke. Got almost home and it died.

Have not been able to make it start again and the carb occasionally sprays small squirts of gas out of the intake (where the airbox would be) when I try to kick start it.

Stumped...Help me please.

Most likely plugged jet in the carb from prolonged sitting. Also, it may be too lean without the airfilter attached. Replace airfilter and see how she does. If not normal, pull and clean the carb. You'll be fine.

I put a brand new carb on so I am hoping it is not a jet. I will put the stock box back on and see if it helps. thanks

Any other advise?

That may very well be it. Too lean.

Sounds like you moved the C Clip. I would have that all the way to the bottom. Make sure you have no air leaks anywhere. Make sure your fuel line flows fuel freely. Did you set your carb when you took it out of the box? Make sure your carb has no air leaks on the intake manifold. How many miles are on the bike? Does it look like someone has tried to adjust the valves? If they are to tight, you won't have sufficient vacuum to run properly.
