KTM Adventure 390
KTM's 390 is lighter than most adventure/tour bikes, but it actually has an impressive 6 speed liquid cooled engine. Only 350 pounds, and the stiff trellis style frame with 56 inch wheelbase and 63 degree steering head make this an off road capable adventure bike.
They've got a 2024 model locally for $7,600 Not cheap, but not cheap either. KTM engineering is generally worth it if you can pay for it. https://www.ktm.com/en-us/models/tra...venturesw.html https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/adv...-know-44593048

A friend of mine just bought a '24 model and really likes it.. He had a Beta 390 previously and although he admits it has nowhere near the power feel, its still pretty zippy. His goal was an adv bike thats as light as possible yet still being good on the road for touring.

The price is not bad considering the quality and performance you are getting. This comes closest to an adventure bike I'd be willing to buy. Off-road capability is not negotiable with me, and most of the bikes in this class are bloated whales! The weight is a critical factor. Motorcycles fall over, especially if you are on an adventure OFF the pavement!

I've had my eye on them since the day they were released.
At that time, the engines were unbalanced, and very vibey. I think around like 2018 or 19 or so, they counterbalanced that engine for a much smoother experience. The main cons of this bike is: 1- High purchase price, 2- weak shocks (many dirt riders complain of failed or bad suspension). 3- Parts are hard to find 4- Some areas don't have dealerships that sell or work on KTM bikes, and even then, parts can take long time to arrive, and maintenance and parts can be costly. |

I put about 85 miles on one that my friend owns. I'ts a little BEAST. If I was looking for an ADV bike for 80/20 or even 50/50 it's first on my list. His was a '21 model and they have improvements for the new ones. It does much better off-road than one would think and just RIPS on curvy roads.

I just put a deposit on a 2021 KTM 390 Adventure with 4500 miles!
The seller is out of town next week so I can't finish the sale until he gets back. I didn't have the cash today. I took a little test ride but all I really learned is that it'll take some getting used to. Probably gonna get some taller risers.

the 20kg wet or so you save compared to the 450mt could come down to the single cylinder, smaller wheels, and smaller tank fuel capacity.
Which is fine if weight is an issue that plays a major factor in your specific choice and needs. It's a perfectly fine motorcycle. with better urban street manners. Looking at the used market they seem to hold resale value but there also seem to be many resales with under 2000km clocked trying to get close to msrp... So maybe there is a short honeymoon period. |

For me the decision was very budget based. I was looking for the best deal I could find on a middle weight adventure bike and this $4000 KTM was it. If not for this KTM I was seriously considering a new 2023 CFM 650 Adventura for $5400. Aside from a 10 year old NC700X for $4000 everything else I found was well over $6000 or high mileage.
