a better ground cable under $5

after feeling my ground cable becoming warm...warmer than it should be....i knew a better ground cable was in order.....

well after a trip to wally world near the car batteries for me....

heres a better ground cable for under $5 ....you do have to cut the end with the hole thats to big and with whats left just drill out the right size and file a little bit to get rid of burrs.... 15 min job and more power...it is quite noticeable on my TBR7. the stock one is next to it for comparison.

Kinda strange it's the ground cable.. usually the live can get warm when starting.
Make sure there are no shorts, or the connections are tight. You can always "add" another ground.

yea it only did that when starting and trying to restart about 3x .... connections are definitely tight now and i sprayed some NcP2 on the connections for good measure.

I don't find it strange that the ground gets warm. On the Hawk the ground wire is no larger than a 12, and IIRC is a 14awg in size. I upgraded mine to a 6AWG pure copper ground strap with 5/16" lug ends for power inverters. It was a bit cheaper when I bought it though. Now it's up to 12 bucks for the 12" length I used (Hawk ground is on the opposite side).

i checked the connections on the stock ground and they seemed fine but i suppose it's possible i missed something or whatever....

with the stock ground i would get 2 decent cranks while trying to start (luckily it generally does start right up ) .....then the dreaded clicking sound and dim lights.... which getting only 2cranks wasn't a big deal ....you only need 1 right? .....

wrong! it stalled when cold sometimes because i didn't hold the throttle till it warmed up a bit... or i forget to turn on the petcok or i didn't choke it correctly or whatever...

i assumed it was a mediocre battery (which it partly is) but it was also the ground....

now i get 5 or 6 and the bike starts even quicker than before... lights don't dim nearly as much.... i would also assume it will charge better and quicker now...

Oh, word of advice/tip. Put anti-seize on the bolt for the ground strap that goes into the engine case. The galvanic corrosion is STRONG on that bolt.
