Thumbs Up New TT 250 not idling on its on!!

Ok so my brand new bike was barely idling like the tach needle was at one or two notices above the zero. Lol.. but I turned up the idle screw till it was just under the 2 on the tach .. now seems to be better.. I'm really new obviously but any advice or experience would help.. my bike only has 33 miles and I think messing with the idle speed screw .. turning it up corrected the problem

It's best to adjust the idle after the engine has warmed up, and the choke is completely off...usually 2.5 turns out is a good start, then adjust accordingly. If it's idling too low (engine is bogging down and almost stalling), turn it clockwise until the RPM's come up. If the idle screw is too far inward, turn counter-clockwise to reduce RPM's so that the engine isn't revved up too high when idling.

You'll likely have to adjust the idle screw in colder temperatures by turning it clockwise a half turn or so, otherwise the engine RPM's may drop too low and stall when idling. It depends on the carb you're using and the outdoor temperature.

You are referencing the mixture screw at 2.5 turns out. The TT has a cap, or usually has a cap, over the mixture screw.

Adjusting the idle via the throttle stop screw is the appropriate thing to do. Ambient temperature can effect idle quality. Most of my carb bikes have to be adjusted at various times through out the year. Best idle is 1200 to 1300 rpm.

While the TT is jetted lean to pass emissions, it isn't as lean as the other China bikes. CSC makes sure they are ready to ride without worrying about lean conditions causing engine failures.

the 2 is for 2000 rpm's. i keep mine at about 1800. most say set it at 1500 but mine would occasionally die when giving throttle at a red light hence the 1800.

Dying from idle with throttle is a sign of a rich condition or a partially plugged pilot jet, usually.

Hey thanks guys for all the input.. yea findind the sweet spot on the idle screw is pretty cool.. I'm in Vegas and today it was 108.. outside. It's super hot here.. but yea had the bike for only 3 days now .. it has barely idled right out the box so we will see how it does now after turning it clockwise a little . Got rpm's to about 1500 to 1800 range vs like 500 to 800 from csc.. so we will see .. I keep my bike in my house so I haven't had to choke in the morning before I go to work.. I just wanted it to idle without dying cuz the idle was so low

With temps that high you probably won't need to choke the engine to get it started. I've found that once the ambient temp drops down to around 60F you may need to choke the engine and let it warm up a little.

I found that 1500 RPM works. But it's the lowest you would want to set the idle speed at. Otherwise, it will stall.

You will also notice that as it breaks in, you may have to lower your idle. These motors are very tight out of box.
Have you put good oil in it?

CSC recommended idle speed (And all other CG250 engines) is 1500rpm plus or minus 100rpm.

Too low and you risk poor oiling and stalling.
Too high and you can potntially cause the bike to overheat faster while stationairy and the bike running.

If you haven't already, start with this extremely simple 'mistake', then go into the idle screw. Not that I would know from experience when I first got my brand new TMEC 200 enduro, or anything like that...

Thanks again guys .. I don't know it's weird after I turned up the idle speed screw last night to have it idle right under 200 rpm's .. I started it this morning no choke and it fired right up but the rpm was like 2500 to 3000 so I turned it down to have it idle normal sounding ran well ..good idle every where then it sat in my parking lot at work. Where it's a 100 plus outside and when I started it again the idle was under 500 rpm's so once again I turned it up clockwise. To have it idle smooth.. seems like I'm going back and forth with the idle speed screw. But everytime once it cools down I have to a just it to idle smooth. Bike only has like 44 miles on it.. Brand new

Maybe I need to choke every time I start. It's really hot outside in Las vegas.. it just seems like I have to give it has to start and stay idling only when I first start it.. after I ajust the idle counter clockwise or clockwise it stays running no throte and is good.. I just have to do a a just mentioned after siting for 8 hours .. arghhh

When you start up the engine are you giving it some throttle? New engines can be finicky idling until they begin to break-in, eventually it'll idle more consistently after the engine is fired. From my own personal experience, now that I've adjusted the carb to run my Hawk much richer than it was running stock, it needs some throttle when it first fires up, then it idles on its own once the engine is warmed up.
