My 1980 Subaru BRAT

When I'm not on 2 wheels, I'm a big Subaru nut. Currently working on rebuilding my turbo 2L for my 2000 Impreza but here's one of my other Subie projects.
1980 Subaru BRAT. 1.8L EA71 pushrod engine, 32/36 Weber carb, custom straight pipe exhaust with a cherry bomb at the end

Nice Brat!

I remember the rear facing seats they put in those for a while. There's one of those around here in NW MO near the airport.

We had a wagon when my kids were toddlers that I ended up doing a timing belt job on (regular maintenance). Easy work on, with access to everything exposed up front! Years ago my mom bought the wagon of that era (70s). Crank windows, and FWD only, but excellent in the snow in the New Mexico mountains.

Yep, I've got a set of original jump seats for the rear but haven't installed them yet. Found that the current config lets me haul my '74 MT125 around with the tail gate down.
I've also got a '79 GL wagon sitting in the driveway waiting for some long overdue attention. The factory 4x4 is pretty much bulletproof, even with a small displacement engine they'll go just about anywhere

My neighbor had one in the early 80s. Cool little truck that rusted away too quickly due to upper Midwestern winters. I almost bought an 84 wagon but opted for an 84 Ford E150 van instead, because kids.

The Brat aka Brumby in Australia is my second favorite Subie and it would be nice if Subaru updated it but I really liked the period of Subaru having dedicated hi/lo transfer boxes...

My favorite Subaru is the DL 1600 station wagon...

I remember being in high school in 1986 and a buddy and I got caught in a blizzard in the Catskills in an old Suburau Brat. The car was amazing and clawed its way through fresh snow deep enough that we were pushing it with the front bumper. Made it to his grandparents place. Great memories.

My first memory of the a Subaru was when I had my first job helping out at an auto elec in the small rural town in Victoria when I was growing up. Shop Ute was a 2nd Gen Brumby, probably a '91-'92.
Then I fell in love with the GC platform STi when I was in high school
