TaoTao 110 Quad - some advice

I recently picked up a weatherbeaten 2008 TaoTao 110 quad, it is in pretty tough shape, overall, missing the battery, left side inspection covers, and lots of rusty stuff. My intention is to get it going for an older youth rider, and what I'd like to do is to bypass or disable the remote control box and the tether switch from the electrical equation.

I picked up a new YTX4L-BS battery for it, I get power to the ignition key and up to the start button, but not from the start button. I can get the solenoid to click by touching the two wires to the battery, so I know that works. I can also get the engine to turn over by jumping the solenoid posts with a screwdriver, so I know the starter motor is still good.

I'm at the point now where I'm thinking it won't start due to a bad start button assembly, but want to bypass and/or disable the remote box and tether. That way I can rule them out as being the reason why it won't start. I plugged the tether in, but there was no change.
I was also thinking about getting a harness assembly for a dirt bike with electric start, with a much simpler harness and less frivolous unnecessary crap, but only as a last resort.
I'd appreciate any insight you all can give me, it will be greatly appreciated.

I believe you are right on with the start button ,and the dirt bike harness idea ,they are cheap enough and the last little while I have seen complete kits with everything electrical on the bike including stator ,harness, cdi, controls, coil, everything for under $50.00 .I like the fact you get the extra stuff even if you only keep it as spares .

Are you getting spark, when you jump the solenoid. Reason I ask there a kill switch by the started button.

The kill switch is in the RUN position, but I don't get spark at the plug by grounding it to engine while jumping the solenoid terminals. I cut the ignition wire back a 1/4" and rethreaded the spark plug boot back in place, still no spark.

I bypassed the whole harness by using an XR50 harness, ignition coil, and CDI with the engine source coil and pulse trigger wires plugged into that. I then jumped the solenoid and it fired right off.

I've ordered this kit to replace the original harness and electrical peripherals and have electric start.

That kit seems kinda pricey. There a couple other possibilities, the handlebar bar brake as a safety switch, on some the rear brake needs to be plugged inane one some the foot brake needs to be engaged. One or a combanation will give you spark.

Just wanted to update this thread for everyone. Because the front brake wires were cut and the brake lever missing, the rear master cylinder was seized and the caliper puck rusted in place, I wouldn't have been able to see if the quad would even run and be worth fixing. Using the XR50 harness and electricals to get it to start, idle, and run quite well gave me the go-ahead and get the e-start bike harness linked above.

I installed it today within 1 hour, start to finish. I was able to ride it for a few minutes and I'm impressed with the way it runs. I had also ordered a left side hand brake and hose, along with a new caliper, to do away with the foot pedal altogether. I hope to have it on the quad within the next couple of days.

Both links are the same, they take you to the sellers page, not the item you purchased.
