Looking to buy KPX250 until...

Been looking at KPX250's for a while and almost made the purchase until I saw the price of parts on Venoms web site. $89.99 for a clutch or throttle cable? Really??? These are Chinese made cables, $20 retail at best. Really wanted the bike but the parts prices were a deal breaker.

Very few people buy replacement parts for their cars and motorcycles at the dealership. Most parts have readily available aftermarket replacements.

And folks here can assist on choices/fitment reports. In fact, lots of replacements don't have to be the same. Sequential led turn signals, better levers, foot pegs, sprockets, mirrors, really just about anything.

I wouldn't let that stop me. The KPX has a 2 year 12,000 mile part warranty. If defective, they will replace it. Like Thumper said, you can buy aftermarket parts if you feel the need to. I have no complaints about my KPX.

yeah....I think you're over-reacting to it. There's sources for parts other than the dealers. Folks here are lots of help in that regard.

You should see the prices RPS puts on the Hawk 250 parts. It's been ridiculous for several years. Why do you think my bike has parts from CSC for the TT250, and pretty much any other source other than RPS and the retailers who sell for them.

Agreed. I just found a pair of fuel filters for $10. A single one from RPS is $25. I have a fuel injected bike so the filter has to accommodate the quick release high pressure fuel lines. If they fit and function, I intend to report back for the Fuel injected crowd.

It's tricky sometimes figuring out exactly what you need, but once you know, there are parts available from other sources.

warranty is the Key word. Clutch cables are easily universal and you can buy anywhere. My KPX 250 parts have been purchased from a wide span of sources. Handlebar risers, sprockets, chains, etc

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to rethink it. I'm looking for something a little lighter than my KLR and V-Strom and the KPX would fit that need (easier to pick up or load in the back of my truck). Thanks again for all the replies and suggestions.

So long you know what you're buying, most of these dealerships are ordering parts from AliExpress, or Alibaba for bulk.
Check Alibaba, cheaper than Amazon or eBay, but slower shipping.

FYI - Venom overprices their parts. Lifan is working on adding the parts to their site (kpmotoclub) for much cheaper. In the meantime, we've had good luck getting warrantied parts within 1 year. Other stuff I've bought from Amazon and Ali Express. We've figured out a bunch of it and most of the info is on kpx250.com and our facebook group for the kpx.
