Sound vs. big bore?

How do the little 200's sound compared to the bigger DS bikes? Like a DRZ400 or Honda 650?

What about after drilling a hole in the muffler?

it sounds like a 200cc bike with a hole drilled in the muffler.. its not going to compare to a big bore big.. it just wont...

Everything about these bikes is great if you know what you are getting and are aware of the differences compared to the big bores and stuff..

this bike will not compete with a drz400 or a xr650 in any way.. except price.

I see you asking a lot of questions.. they are cool bikes for the price, but you cant compare them to the big bore bikes, its like comparing apples to oranges... just doesnt work.

These bikes ARE:

inexpensive
fun
easy to work on
good to get around town on
fun off road because they are light and nimble
good mpg
parts are cheapish.... if you can find them...
sturdy

These bikes ARENT:

japanese...
fast
easy to get parts for
NEVER GOING TO BE FAST NO MATTER WHAT
going to have an aftermarket anytime soon
going to compete in a motox.
made for wheelies

if you know what you are getting : a fun bike that is not really expensive, good to learn on, and easy to work on.. fun to ride on all terrain, and gets good mpg.. then you will be happy, if you are looking for something thats going to power wheelie every gear and be loud and fast... then you may want to consider other options...

You're right - I just don't know which route to go. I'm a speed freak but I'm trying to settle down for the family.

Maybe I should just try and legalize my YZ. LOL

i dunno, i bought my lifan because i can mount it on the back of my jeep and take it with me on vacation.. also for bombing around town and exploring the woods and trails near the state park...

i plan on getting a kawasaki zrx1200r in the summer for my highway jaunts and for speed duties...

the lifan is good for just riding and enjoying the ride... not for the exhilliration of hitting an apex of a turn just right and pulling a sweet power wheelie out of a corner...

On the money again!

Stuff like that helps me confirm the choice I plan to make.
I think I could buy it at a nice price and just keep it for years and let my wife or son (when he gets older) take it for the occasional ride.

If you are a speed freak, then you will never be happy with one of these bikes.

I have done all the cheep mods, i.e. cleaned up exhaust header, pod filter and drilled tailpipe. I can just pull away from traffic coming off a light. Any Mustang, corvette or BMW will walk all over me. But Geo Metros look out, I'll pop a wheelie and go right over you. :o

There are lots of used bikes that get decent fuel economy in the 400-600cc range that might work for you.

On the other hand, If you want to be the only guy in the neighborhood on a Lifan, Zongsen or Roketa and don't mind riding a tiny dirtbike. Then these are the way to go! I could not be happier than I am right now with my bike!
