2023 zongshen 250, 6 speed ignition issues .. help!

So I bought this zongshen 250cc 6 speed engine for a go cart project.
The engine has two yellow alternator wires.
It also has the blue and green wire for the pulse coil.

The dc cdi unit that came with the motor doesn’t work out of the box.

I bought another one with an adjustable pot on it. For ignition timing?

It sparks now, but the timing looks way advanced. So advanced when cranking over the engine it sounds like a hammer hit it and the engine completely stops turning briefly. I checked the flywheel and cam timing and it looks correct. The pickup coil works and I see Spark at the plug the instant I flick a screwdriver on it .

I guess I’ll buy a different type of cdi? Has anyone ever experienced this? This engine is brand new 0 miles!

Buy a regular, non performance CDI. I never had any luck with the so called performance CDI's.
