Improve brake light intensity?
Has anyone noticed that the RX3's brake light isn't much brighter than the tail light? The tail light could be brighter too, but I really like my brake lights to pop.
I first noticed this when I was following DanKearney on our ride a couple of weeks back. I could barely tell when he was braking because the transition is a blink-and-you-miss-it microsecond and the brake light isn't bright enough to convince you it's not just the tail light. Does anyone know a way to bump up the brightness of the brake light? Like maybe a resistor we can remove or change out?

I didn't do anything with the stock rear light, but I did add an extra LED brake light.
It's called the 'Soundoff mini 3led'. Has 33 different flash patterns Mounted on the flat just below the taillight, just have to remove the reflector I thought it was kinda pricey till I got it powered up, then realized it's worth every penny! It's almost painful to look at. You won't be disappointed |

I replaced both of my rear tail lights on my KLRs with this:

On the CSC Baja trip I was following a bunch of other RX3s an also noticed that there wasn't much difference in the brightness of the brake light over the tail light. I was thinking that an improvement would be to have more LEDs in the light unit that came on only when using the brake - that would change the pattern of the lights and would indicate a change.
There are several options. I like the P3 lights from Skene Designs - they can be set to flash four times when you apply the brakes; they then go steady until you let off the brake. They also function as tail lights, with a flicker function. My current favorite is the Volo light. It is a license plate frame with tail and brake lights. The difference is that the brake light is not operated by the bike's brakes. It is operated by an accelerometer that senses when you slow down. When you slow down by letting up on the gas or gently braking the brake light on the Volo will flash. If you brake hard the light will flash faster. Easy installation - uses power from your license plate light. http://vololights.com/ http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/v...or#reviews_tab

Here are several videos showing the design and operation of the SoundOff LED3 Mini, a.k.a. the SoundOff EL3SNR.

For about the same price as the SoundOff EL3SNR, you can also get the Hyper-Light Flashing Brake Light.
http://www.hyperlites.com/stdsf.html To reduce cost, you can choose either the Universal, brake light only kit, or the S16, brake light only kit. However, other kits with more options are available. WebBikeWorld did a nice review of the Hyper-Light brake lights. http://www.webbikeworld.com/lights/h...yper-lites.htm

Some people claim the Skene P3 brake lights are best. They certainly are the most expensive.
Here is a link to Skene website, which also describes the Photon Blaster running lights, and his other products. http://www.lights.skenedesign.com/ Here is the P3 page at the Skene website. http://www.skenedesign.com/lights/P3_Features.shtml Here is the order page at the Skene website, where the prices are revealed. http://www.lights.skenedesign.com/Order.shtml

Here are links to some threads discussing the merits of the Skene P3 system versus the Hyper-Light system.
