new member, hawk 250 will be delivered Monday

i am so excited as i took the day off to accept the delivery of the hawk 250(crate)black. purchased from txps and ups is delivering it , this monday 2/5/2018, and ups called me to reschedule bc semi could fit on my street(extra 4 days of wait), so a box truck will deliver it. i also have ordered the much talked about "needed" mods.

-mikuni vm26 carb
-Wingsmoto Mikuni jet kit(plan on using 120)
- JT Sprockets JTR269.45 45T
-JT Sprockets JTF259.17 17T
-NGK (2202) DPR8EIX-9 Iridium
-JT Drive Chains 428 x 130 Links HDR
-aftermarket muffler system(the one most get)
-3 1/4" burrito tube

i have a motorcycle jack to assemble and mod this thing before 1st start.
is there any reason i shouldn't do these mods before 1st start?

i have been riding for over 30 yrs and working on them here and there, so i feel confident i can handle this hawk 250 assembly and modding it correctly.

i havent worked on a carb though. re-jetting it will be a learning curve for me. some say back out mixture 1 click. wth does that mean? once click out from closed or 1 click out from how it arrives from factory?

anyways, thanks for viewing this, and hopefully i make some new friends here. i will post anything i think hasn't been noted before me on this journey.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new hawk. Mods shouldn't matter. Just make sure you do a proper break in and you should be good to go. I'm sure you have read all the information on assembling and what to look out for. Fill free to ask questions in the dual sport section. Lots of usefull information in link below.

These things are pretty easy and effortless (natural) to ride (you'll find it out). Just the limited power thing but for trail and close street work , they are plenty worthy.

here's one of my early threads related to carb setup. there's a few pics which may help you since you don't know carbs. never fear, cause I didn't know them either. once I dug into it, I found it really easy.

add valve adjustment to your list of things to do. I would suggest doing it while doing your initial bike setup. they are often poorly set at the factory.

Welcome! In case you haven't encountered a comment on it yet, change the oil before starting it. Several of us use 15W40 diesel oil all year, as long as it is wet clutch compatible. I use Rotella, simply because it's usually on sale at Walmart.

I use the same thing, Rotella T 15-40 diesel oil. It has all the good stuff that keeps wet clutches running happily.

I run that in everything I own that has flat tappets. My old Ram truck with its 225 leaning tower of power LOVES that oil. And these CG motors likes it too. I also second the valve adjustment. When I bought the Brozz it was way LOOSE the exact opposite of what most folks encounter with them being way to tight. And when you get the rockers adjusted right she will be noisy. Which is good and normal. A loose valve is a happy valve. LOL
