Need help
Hello,
I just purchased a 04 ZS200GY-A dirt bike. The previous owner purchased drom original owner who dropped @ was hurt real bad. He parked it for six years. He claims it only has 114 miles, it does not have a odomertor or headlight cluster. But the title has the milelage. I guess I will take his word. He also says he recently replaced the carburetor where he only payed 20.00 from chinaparts.com I haven't seen one for less than 50.00. Thats all the history I was told. The problem I'm having is it will run great after an exhausting 10 minutes of cranking. Once it starts while riding it will simply die what seems to flood out. I took the plug out to find no signs of flooding (please know I only know the basic's & by nO means a mechanic) I'm not exactly sure what position the choke is on by switching a black lever up or down it has three positions. One last thing it will empty all the gas from the bowl sometimes & only seems to start back up when I unscrew the float bowl screw and release all the gas. I would appreciate any advise at this point. Before I dive into something. Thank you! [/img]
|

The carb is almost certainly varnished or plugged. The pilot jet in particular seems like the culprit.
One way to prove the carbs the issue is remove the plug and put a few (2-5) cc's of gas in the plug hole and replace the plug. If it starts right up and runs for 5-10 seconds or so that proves that the carb is the issue. You can remove and clean the carb. No big mechanical knowledge is needed. You can check out some good videos on YouTube. Welcome to the forum! Bill The FastDoc.
