Oh No Hawk 250 Speedo Cable

Unfortunately I never payed attention to tightening the speedo cablefor quite a while, and it eventually came loose, got caught in the spooks and ripped the entire thing off.

However Ive been having some trouble finding a replacement.
Finding the inner cable is the easy part, but finding the correct outer housing has been difficult.

Does anyone know the part #? or similar cable + housings that actually fit the 2016 Hawk.

The only success in even finding one has been on RPS's website, but Im trying not to pay 45$ for the speedo cable.

Both attachment points at the wheel and the speedometer are untouched and undamaged.

Edit: Does not fit.
Should be the same as the TT250 Cable http://www.cscmotorcycles.com/TT250-...-p/zt6-102.htm

My first post on this site.

Thanks for the tip on the speedometer cable. My daughter managed to accidentally stretch the one on her Hawk when it got snagged behind the horn. When she moved the bars hard to the left, the cable stretched and disengaged the inner at the ends.

I ordered her a new part listed on here for the TT250 risking that it will work. I ordered from the importer today (CSC) and they we're very prompt to mail it out. I'll respond here with how it works out.

The tt250 from csc does not fit. If only the inside cable needs replacing you can pull the inside cable from the tt250 and slide it into the hawks outer housing cable. Screws on end of the tt250 speedo cable are different than the hawks.

Thanks for confirming that it doesn't fit.

Well, darn. I knew this was a risk when I ordered it.

What I think I'm going to do is remove the inner cable and shorten the outer at the point where it got stretched. I'll use a Dremel cut-off wheel and splice the ends with a piece of metal tube. I suspect as much as 12mm shorter.

Thanks for responding. There seem to be other options in the form of kits.

I was driven off of the OEM provider by, what to me, is price gouging. They want $55usd for the cable - free shipping.

I'm a veteran motorcycle mechanic, service manager, and parts man (60s - '70s). For the most part, I perceive way to high mark-ups on the prices from the import supplier.

Edit: I shortened the outer housing about 9mm or so and spliced with a piece of tubing, similar to fuel line tubing but thick wall. Diameter of the steel coiled outer sheath is about 6mm and it was a tight fit, secured with twisted wire clamping and wrapped with black tape. Installed and works fine. I feel relieved now, a little embarrassed that I didn't check out in more detail before ordering.

Anybody have any solutions for finding a new usable speedometer cable that is less than $55? Bought a hawk that had it missing.

Personally I would ditch the stock inaccurate speedometer and replace it with an accurate digital speedometer.

Thats a good idea !! If you still want the old style you can have my old cable for postage. PM me. Had 200 miles on it when I pulled it off. I'm not going back...

After I calibrated my new digital speedo it was 1/10 a mile off on milage over 20 miles to the GPS. Close enogh for woods riding and speed traps

Definitely change over to the digital speedo, so much nicer and no issues with the cable. I also have a spare old style cable and speedo if anyone needs it.

Digital cluster also means you have a tachometer, which on its own is worth it in my opinion.

I am new owner of Tao Tao TBR7 250 and my speedometer cable broke in 2 days. Does anyone knows if Hawk 250 Digital Speedometer works with taotao? Tao Tao does not have RPM Gauge in the cluster.
Thank you!
