2017 Hawk 250 Gas tank leak

I took my Hawk out for a ride today, it was a nice ride. But when I got home and turned the fuel petcock valve off I noticed gas dripping from the output of the gas tank. It's just above where the petcock valve is.

Anybody have this issue? I'm guessing a little RTV will fix it? Do I need to drain the tank and seal it from the inside?

I tried to attach a picture but it was to big of a file.

I just fixed mine 2 weeks ago. It's a bad weld or solder job where the petcock stem enters the tank. I cleaned with rubbing alcohol and sealed with JB steel. Holding up so far.

Mine has the same problem. Is it still holding up?

They don't weld these things correctly from the factory. You can mess around with JB weld like I tried to, but ultimately nothing worked 100%. Don't even bother using epoxy putty, that stuff is not nearly strong enough to contain a leak.


What I ended up doing was buying a Brozz 250 tank and key kit (you need it for the lid) and replacing the whole thing. The tank is ~$60 and the key kit is about the same, so ~$120 total. It's not a perfect fit, but the new style tank has a much better weld pattern without the plate on the bottom which makes the original tank nearly impossible to repair.


IMO the tank is a major safety problem on these bikes and I would never recommend anyone buy a chinese bike after mine blew open.
