Buying a new 2013 Husqvarna TR650 Terra!
My KLRE650 project bike recently returned home unfinished. Not what I signed up for or agreed to. As a result, I have been looking for a new dualsport motorcycle. The New 2013 Husqvarna TR650 is so similiar to what I wanted from my KLRE, that I have decided to quit on my project and get a new Husky TR. I've always wanted a Husqvarna and almost purchased a new 2011 TE630, in late 2010. I started up on the KLRE project because the deal on the TE630 fell through. It kind of seems ironic now, that a new Husky killed the KLRE. I'm glad to be done with that. My KLX250 is now listed in the For Sale Section on this Board and in many other places and I have a surplus of KLR parts if anyone needs something. I've also decided to sell what is left of my parted out KTM 950 Adventure.
My timeframe for the TR650 purchase is this Winter between December 2012 and February 2013. I'd get it sooner but I don't want half the warranty to run out before I get a chance to ride it. Both Hall's and my local dealer will be duking it out with me for the lowest price available. I'm hoping to buy it for $6000 cash. I've already been quoted $6500 from my local dealer. I'm just waiting on bikes to arrive, so that I can go check them out. Famous last words: I plan to leave this one stock and just ride the beans out of it! Yeah right! Honestly, I don't think the TR needs much but my buddies are all rolling around on the floor, over that one too! I told each of them, that if they give me grief, I won't let them ride the Husky! That should quell the dissention. Actually, I do plan to add bags and upgrade a few components: grips, handlebars, etc... I may add a Rekluse auto-clutch later too, as this bike uses the Rotax patterned 650 engine from BMW (built by Loncin in China). Hey, I can post about this bike in the regular Dualsport Forum. 8) Can't wait to get my hands on the Husqvarna!

I haven't read anything about these, but how different are they from the new BMW GS650? The police around here have them (for many years now) and they seem quite OK to me for dual sport.
Also, have you considered Aprilia Pegaso. It's powered by the Yamaha 660 engine. |

I just read one short article on that bike a week ago. Seems like Husky's answer to the KLR but much lighter and tighter. I am very envious.
The local Husky dealer is selling new 250's and 300 2 strokes for $5K. I'm having a hard time not checking them out. I like Huskys.

The bike that I want is the TR650. I'm not really looking at anything else. They use the same engine as the G650GS. Everything else is better than the G650GS. Quote:

That Husky is a very nice motorcycle. The Rotax engine parts should be easy to acquire, especially since a BMW bike shares the same engine. I wonder how difficult/expensive it is to get Husky parts?

Looks like I sold my KLX today! I now have all the money I need for a TR650 purchase.
The Husky parts should be easy to get. I imagine Husqvarna will want to make sure parts are available for this bike. It's advertized as a competitor to the KLR. I'm very excited!

Congratulations on the sale of the KLX. I hope whoever bought it appreciates the work you put into it.
If we meet sometime I'll let you ride it. Both events would be a pleasure.

The sale isn't a done deal yet but the gentleman wants to buy the KLX for his wife. He seems serious and and sincere. He's out West and he will have to workout the shipping. It's a great bike and I knew that it would sell fast. It has a lot of nice features. If I didn't want the TR so badly, I would not have sold it. At $3800 the KLX was a great deal.
The TR is worth sacrificing the KLX.

The deal on the KLX apparently fell through. I have no idea why. Just never heard back from the guy that was interested in it. The bike has been listed in the local trade paper again. Hopefully, it will sell.
Today, I went to look at the Husqvarna TR650 Terra at the closest Husky dealer. The dealership is 150 miles from my place. We had a nice trip and made a family day of it. The bike looks to be exactly what I need and want. I have decided to buy an off-road sidecar rig and use the new Husky as my tug. Claude Stanley will do the build for me. The first move is to buy the TR650. I should be able to order the bike next month, if everything goes to plan. SamM

I'm all about the Husky's nowadays. There are a number of them that I would like, with the TE 449 and 510 on the top of my list. Also, for what you get, they are a good value. Plus the panache!
