Help with 2 up on Hawk 250 and forks
Hey,
I am picking up a used hawk 250 this weekend and already bought a minkuni carb + jetts for it. I live in Denver and intend on riding between 5000-12,000 feet this summer. I need help with two questions. 1) I'm new tuning carbs, I bought the jetts but not sure which to use on the vm26. I saw someone suggest to use a 22 and 105 for my altitude on another 250. Any thoughts on 5000ft and 10000ft? etc? 2) I want to use the bike on light trail riding with girlfriend. Total weight between us probably 330-340lbs. I read the forks are already squishy. What mods or upgrades or even fork replacement can I do to be okay riding with this much weight? Thanks! |

Can't help you with the suspension as I'm just running stock with spacers and new fork oil.
But for the carb you might start with what Azhule was running as his altitudes are close to what you are looking at. From Azhule: Riding Altitude : 6,000 to 12,000+ feet above sea level ----- Carb Settings that seem to work ----- Mikuni VM26 clone (aftermarket) Carb Settings : 4th clip "rich" on the Needle, 107.5 main (Mikuni), 17.5 pilot (Mikuni), ~2.5 turns out on Pilot Adjustment Screw I'm in Central CO 7300ft and ride similar elevations and the stock PZ30 carb has been working ok for me but going to switch to the VM26 this summer and gonna start tuning with the settings above. Just remember when you increase in elevation it will get richer as the oxygen decreases and vice versa.
