Riding Season has Begun in Idaho!

The riding season has arrived in my part of Idaho! While I wait for the snow to melt from the mountain trails, I can at least ride the lowlands at 4,400 feet above sea level.

The melting snow can make the roads here very sloppy in the springtime thaw.

Here's why you don't want a low front fender in Idaho.

A stainless steel, exhaust header also makes it much easier to clean the baked mud off your pipes.

Speaking of which, how do you normally clean your bike?

I put a plug in the muffler's exhaust hole. Then I spray the bike with my garden hose; I don't use a pressure washer. I buff the exhaust header with a chamois to remove the baked mud. Finally, I spray WD40 on the drive chain to remove the water.

Your garden hose must have good pressure, and Idaho mud must fall off easily.

My garden hose does have good pressure. However, Idaho mud doesn't always fall away very easily. I always try to wash the bike as soon as I get home from a muddy ride. Also, the first application of water softens the mud, so later sprays from the hose can dislodge the mud.

Love it Spud!

It was wise to bring the Torque Monster out in that mud. I hate mud. Funny sand is fun and smooth and easy now, but I have only ridden in the mud once, on my KLX, and ate it 3 times.

Your lowlands are higher than my local highlands.

That is nasty mud. But the mountain looks great. Is it possible to climb it?

Yes, one can climb that butte. However, it's also possible to ride to the top. Here are some photographs I took from the summit.
