Scooter stator question

Hello guys!
Im new to the forum and picked up a Longjia Trevis 2T 50cc scooter that doesnt run. Im more used to my OBD ports since i work at a VW dealer but after a bit of trouble shooting with a multi meter i confirmed that the pick up coil is shorted out on the stator.
So i ordered a few parts for it online and after checking my order again i noticed that i may have ordered a different stator even tho it was the only one that fit my scooters VIN.
So the new stator has no excider coil that goes in the magneto (only has 8 charging coils) but the bolt holes line up and the connectors are the same. My question is if the scooter will spark with no excider coil but only the pickup? If i understand the pickup sends a signal to the CDI and the CDI sends a signal to the ignition coil to create spark. However with no excider i would always need a battery connected for it to start but it should still work right?
