I would LOVE one of these in my garage. Enfield Cafe Racer.

That's a nice looking motorcycle.

However, it is a 'Brit bike.'

It's beautiful, and probably quite functional. It would be the coolest 'around town' bike but still highway capable for short trips.

The only issue for me would be no passenger seat. I like all my street bikes to have a passenger seat. Never a good idea to leave a pretty girl behind to hitch a ride with someone else!

There was a decent article in Cafe Racer about the new RE, and the RE site has some fun videos about it. I'd love one.

It is now waaay better than a Brit bike of old. I appreciate the Paioli suspension and the Brembo brakes, along with the lack of Lucas.

I wonder if the Royal Enfield bikes are better today because they are made in India? The company's website says the Bullet 350 models have been made in India since 1955. The Royal Enfield website only list a factory tour for India, so I don't know if any of the Royal Enfield bikes are made elsewhere.

I was able to ride a Continental GT in London http://www.flickr.com/photos/motoperu/9804682116/ there are passenger pegs so can be ridden two-up but my guess it that it would be a tight fit. I ordered one when I got back to Lima and am #4 on the list at Raceway in Salem, Oregon http://www.racewayenfield.com/gt-cafe-racer.html Hopefully, I'll take delivery in a couple of weeks, I'll post photos after I hit the road on it.

Terrific news! Looking forward to your long-term reports on the GT. I doubt that you could ride two-up without switching the saddle. The frame looks like it could accomodate a longer, flatter seat.

They're better because of time and technology. They're fuel injected now, and they meet international emmissions standards. They no longer use archaic Lucas electrics, and I doubt there is a Whitworth fastener on the bike. There is precious little about it that is a Brit bike anymore, other than the name.

RE is only manufacured in Chennai, AFAIK.

I guess that's my point, Weld. The current Royal Enfield is British in name only. However, I'm sure the Brits could manufacture this bike as well in England, but it would certainly cost much more.
