They Say The First Step To Recovery Is...
They say the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem. Good thing for me that I DON'T have an addiction to buying motorcycles, and I can stop whenever I want! This beauty is on the way to my stable from Mid-State New York. Should be here in a few weeks.http://www.chinariders.net/attachmen...1&d=1548446266

That's part of the reason I picked it up. There's something going on in the engine, and the guy wasn't really sure what went BANG. He has another bike he's riding, so he let this one go for a song. I picked it up because even with the shipping across the country, it was still less than $1,500, and because the CB's and CL's use the same frame, engine and wheels. The seats and tanks are slightly different, but everything else is pretty much the same. I figure with two and a half engines all up, I should be able to get the CB up and running in short order, then use it as sort of a living example of where everything is supposed to go on the Scrambler. It's like bringing two bikes back for the price of one.

That bike reminds me of my first bike. A 74 Honda CB200. The bike looks to be in great shape.

There are actually a ton of the old 200's and 350's popping up out this way. The 450's are pretty rare, and some of the parts are getting a bit pricey, but they can still be found for the most part. My first bike was a 1982 Kawasaki 454 LTD. Ahhh, memories...

I had one of those with a big old Vetter fairing on it! Fantastic bike that never let me down. Lol, I took my bike license on it
Enjoy, it looks to be in good shape once you get the engine sorted. |

I'm lucky if I go for 12 hours without looking for another bike to buy...

Those 450's are getting very rare. I keep hoping to find a deal on one just like yours, but they rarely pop up for sale. I think a lot of them got snatched up and turned into Cafe Racers and the rest are just collecting dust in a barn somewhere.

Dan, that's exactly the way it's shaping up. Another ten years or so, and you'll see an entire aftermarket for turning the 450's back in to stockers from hack-job cafe racers. I could sell the Scrambler as it sits for at least $500. The pipes alone are worth that much, even with them being a bit dinged up. I think I'm going to go down to the motorcycle junkyard out here in Phoenix tomorrow or Tuesday and buy the 450 engine I saw there. It's missing the stator cover, but I can work around that. I have the complete (I hope it's complete, anyway) engine that came with the Scrambler, plus about 2/3rds of a second engine. If I buy the 450 out of the junkyard, that will give me about three and a bit complete engines to split among the two bikes that I have with the 450's. Seems like a good investment to me, at least.

From one ‘I don’t have a problem’ guy to another, the physical size of the item of addiction is what can cause problems. Mrs. C will never notice another bicycle or lantern in the garage. Another motorcycle, though, would illicit a “What the hell is that?”, along with “Didn’t we agree...?”

Hi, I’m Lance, I’m 54 and I don’t have a problem. Actually, bikes are sooo much smaller and cheaper than cars. I can ‘sneak’ them into the garage and my amazing wife never really even notices or cares. She did ask me once this fall, how many bikes I currently own. Which is somewhere around 7 if you count the parts bikes....
Bikes I’ve owned: Mostly complete list - there were a few parts bikes, or engines etc. Like 1990’s V-twin Shadow engine that I traded for a TC90, but hard to count if That’s a bike or not... 1967 Suzuki k15p high school 1975 Honda xr75 ? High school 1971 Honda z50 for sisters 1982 Kawasaki kd80 high school 1977 Yamaha yz250 high school 1973 Suzuki tc125 high school 1974 Suzuki tc125 college 1976 Honda xl125 (never ran right) 1975 Honda cb360t chicken coop find 1974 Honda cb360t bought early 90s 1971 Honda ct70 uncle Denny 1996 Suzuki dr350s traded ct70 for it 2003 Honda XR100 late 2000’s 1974 Honda st90 found in Alaska dump 1973 Honda ct70 1986 Honda xr200 (traded boat cables for it and the xr100) 2001 Honda xr100 (See frankenbike - still have frame and many parts) 1986 Honda xr600 100$ basket case 1985 Honda xl600 basketcase for parts 1986 Honda xr600 built out of others 1987 Honda xr600 bent frame 2003 Honda xr650l traded the other 2 for it 1973 Frankenbike. 2001 xr100 engine in Suzuki TS90 frame (still have, in Alaska) 2006 Roketa (Shineray) 200 DB-06 - this bike is mostly a Beta Alp clone with fake Honda engine 2002 Yamaha ttr225 (still have, in Alaska - street legal) 1983 Yamaha xt200 (still have, in Alaska, parts) 1974 Suzuki TC185 1971 Suzuki TS185 2009 Kawasaki KLX250sf (still have, best bike ever owned) 2003 Yamaha TTR125 (still have for sis and wife) 1972 Suzuki TC90 1970 Honda CL100 (still have) 1972 Honda CL100 for parts w/SL and CB125 engines (still have)
