cdi on the t1

Hello again, I just finished putting the new performance cdi and front shocks. The outcome, the shocks make the ride 110% better but the cdi make it run worse. I adjusted the carb and still runs a little rough. Has anyone run into this problem and if so is there a fix? I put the old cdi in and once again she runs smooth.

Unless you got a bad CDI i have no idea, mine ran fine when i installed the performance CDI, have you changed the spark plug to a NGK CR7HSA yet ?, if not i'd do that first.

.24 -.28

i have mine sitting at .26

those numbers are from the honda atc200 think 1989 model.. since that is the year that these motors are modeled after and replacement parts from honda come from that year...

Honestly, in the past 25 years of using NGK spark plugs i have never gapped them, they have always been good right out of the box.

Ok so I put the new NGK in and gapped it( it came at .20 so had to gap) and no change with new CDI in. I put the old cdi back and now it rans great again. Must be faulty cdi as it sputters and stalls with the pro cdi. Thanks all, I guess i'll hit up Gio and ask them.

Yuo did get the right CDI, right?, there is a large model and small model, the T1 takes the small model ( not sure if the plugs are the same on both, will check when i get home).

there is a blue model and a gold model..

blue is for scooters mostly as the plugs are rounded at the corners.

gold is for atv's where the plugs on it are squared at the corners

Can't really go by the color as there is blue and gold ones for the 200cc-250cc engines and there is blue and amber in the 50cc-125cc engines.

One thing you might want to check on the CDI is that the wires are in the correct spot and that one isn't out of place in the plug, here's a pic of the CDI you should have and the coresponding wires in the plug, double check that, if it matches you probably have a bad CDI.

neways hopefully the op can get this worked out, in the end tho you could have a defective unit

No that CDI in the pic is an extra that i have for my sons 50cc or my 110cc T1, i run the large CDI ( which i have in blue or gold ) on my Beast and will also be going in my GIO 250cc dirt bike.

I know my "small" CDI's I have here for my 50 and 110cc atv's are blue. They work great and improved idle and power.

My 200cc Beast one is blue as well, but is a larger box. It plugged right in and ran well.

I don't think the color makes any difference, it's just for 'show' ...

the color at the least tells the difference between the different plugs that are on it..
