Where is the CHOKE????
Hello forum members. My daughter just gave me a 2016 Hawk dirt bike. It did not come with a manual or any instructions. I've been working on it for fun (changing the oil, new battery, new plug) but I have run into a real head-scratcher. I was able to get an owner's manual online and I have been looking ALL OVER for the choke on this thing. The owner's manual mentions a choke and that there are three settings - but they do not show where it is? There is a small silver screw on the carb that I think is to balance the air intake - but again, that is not identified either? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Welcome aboard! Choke is located on the left side of carburetor. Black lever. Now if the carburetor was replaced by the previous owner it could be different. Take a picture of what you have. The stock carb would be a PZ30.

Thanks! It’s an original Sheng Way carb. And I did find the lever! Boy, they have that well hidden!
The lever is all the up. Is that where it should be? I’m used to applying the choke to start and then easing it off as the engine warms up. The manual did say there are three setting - all the way up, halfway down, and then all the way down. Should I just leave it up or play around with it to see what gives me the best performance? Thanks for your help! Last edited by dforsh33; 12-06-2021 at 09:49 AM. Reason: Misspelled word! |

Posting a few pics of the carb will help determine whether or not the choke is in the "ON" or "OFF" position when the lever is up.

The choke is on the right side of the carb. It is a 3 position lever and hard to see

Hi All - I have a Shineray XY250GY that has the same carb as this.
On the weekend whilst riding the carb started leaking (constant flow not just a drip). The bike stopped and now won't run at all. The only thing that stops the leak is to turn off the fuel valve. The leak is coming from the brass component above the choke lever. See photo attached. I thought the leak would have been from the inlet hose but that does not appear to be the case. Question 1 - what is the name of that small brass component? Question 2 - is this a problem anyone has seen before? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Brad |

Sounds like dirt in the float needle.

That is a vent hole that equalizes the air in the float bowl, and, as stated above, could be a dirty or stuck float needle, overfilling the float bowl and causing the fuel to spill out that vent hole.

Great, thank you.
Am I kidding myself by thinking I can clear it with compressed air after emptying the bowl? Sounds as though I'm best to take the whole thing out and bowl off. |

Snap a few pics after you remove the float bowl and post them here. If something is amiss, we may be able to spot it. |
