Music to Ride too

Music is subjective, and some might prefer to hear the engine burble...

But I thought it might be cool to pick an obscure non mainstream band/music suggestion to ride to with a basic genre explanation.

It comes down to 1 band/artist choice to share Something different to tingle the eardrums (apologies for the hearing impaired)

So I will start with my choice.

A band from the Czech Republic...(I have Czechoslovak heritage)

the band name is +-0

https://plusminusnula.bandcamp.com/

I recommend both albums...the best genre description i have is Slavic Joy division/sonic youth/the Cure...gothic post punk

Even without understanding the lyrics, the music composition and emotiveness is tight.

Maybe you have a local band or just feel an artist isn't getting the recognition they deserve...please feel free to share, but the condition of the post is 1 choice only...any it should be considered as a motorcycle ride enhancement.

Tough one. My musical tastes have a very wide range. Though I stream 1 Gold Radio out of the UK while riding, I'd have to say Germany's Kraftwerk. https://kraftwerk.com/

While an acquired taste and not mainstream in any sense of the word, they have put out many albums since the seventies. Their electronic/mechanical sounds work well with any engine. If you have 10 minutes to spare, listen to 'Autobahn' from their first album by the same name.

Like I said, it's an acquired taste but it eats up miles.

I have soft spot for analogue synths and eastern European synth pop.

I remember as a child vividly seeing the Kraftwerk's "we are the robots" music video on Saturday morning television and it blowing my young impressionable mind.

They are basically their own genre which massively influenced and changed modern music.

Kind of off topic and from my youth but kind of what we strive for on two or three wheels.

I've been on an 80's synth-wave kick lately, and this is one of my favorites to put on out in the shop or cruising down the road:

Mainly runs from Tucson to Phoenix, or Prescott Valley, and back lately.
So longer mixes help...

Or I could just do a "mix-tape"/Playlist of songs that I have liked for years...
that I didn't know until recently that Steve Winwood was in the band. lol

And then? Then there was 9/11 and a lost decade of boring stuff.

but out of the ashes of that music scene of nothingness came more electronic music. I went to the these. I went to this actual festival in this YouTube. In 2014. And a few other times.

I also went to electric forest. Burning man. Tomorrow world. Followed desert hearts around the country. Miami music week every year. All that.

The millennials were a great generation to party with.

Really actually take a minute to watch this YouTube. It conveys exactly what it was like.

All of these festivals I went to around that time were some of the most fun I have had in my entire life. I can look back and say I definitely had fun.

and one last post.

if you like electronic music check out this BBC 1 takeover by Skrillex. I know he’s pretty basic and all. People don’t like him. But this is a good set

Good choices,

but a bit mainstream for my electronic taste. but you might know Bicep

If you like artists like Aphextwin, Muziq, Boards of Canada, Autechre and the 'IDM' genre you'll probably like Microlith.

Also this YT DJ channel pretty much has the underground global electronic music scene on tap.

Bicep. Nice! i’m struggling to remember the music from back then. We had a lot of obscure DJ sets that I can’t even remember anymore. The problem is I went and did all of that partying with the millennials and it over wrote some of the old stuff in my memory I think.

I lived two comings of electronic music. And I participated in both. As a young man in the first set, and then as an old man in the second set. Some of the best experiences and fun in life are at these types of shows for sure.

The bicep video above kind of reminded me of this chemical Brothers one that’s not quite as main stream. Mostly because of the arbitrary nature of the footage.

Love this one. Sooooo interesting to try to match all the things with the sounds.

Yeah I preferred the Chemical Brothers over fatboy slim and daft punk.

The Prodigy is also in there own zone around that time.

Star Guitar is definitely one of their better underappreciated tracks...But I think Salmon Dance wins the originality award.
