A few cold miles on the Roketa

I must be crazy. Got up this morning and it was sunny out, roads still frozen, soooo.... Pulled the Roketa out of the barn. Fired it up. It started off the battery and it was well below zero last night!!! It was 7 degrees (F) when I left and about 10 when I got back. Brrrr.... I rode the bike into town and gassed it up. ($1.14) Got about 15 more miles on it and it runs great. This was the first run on the road with the new muffler and pod filter. It runs great with the needle set to full rich and 2 1/2 turns out on the idle mixture screw. Thanks Jason. Can't wait for Spring!!!

did you manage to crack into it with the new setup on? how did it sound, make any noticable power over the stock setup, and did it run smooth with your carb settings?

Yup, its off a YZ250F, and yup, got it off eBay for $5.50 plus $15 shipping. Sounds great. Hard to tell if it really increased the power much. I would say I gained some top end and it might pull a little better. Runs PERFECT with these settings. It was cold and clear so it was perfect conditions for a "too lean" condition, but it never missed a beat! I pulled into the gas station in town right behind about 5 or 6 snowmobiles gassing up. Boy that sure turned some heads. Hahahaha. Only in Vermont can you see a motorcycle filling up next to a snowmobile! Anyway, here's the link to the exhaust mod.

BTW, in the earlier post I said the exhaust was a stainless alloy. Turns out it is titanium. Welded kinda wierd, like really "runny", but totally doable if you know what you are doing with a welder. PS, put 85 miles on the snowmobile later in the day!

Couldn't tell you. I have only had the bike since December, and it's only seen the road twice. It cruises at 60 mph with plenty to spare so I'd guess 75 or 80 on level going. Worst trouble here is Vermont is all mountains. Straight up, straight down. Wont pull the hills in 5th gear, but will easily maintain 55 or 60 in 4th. I am plenty satisfied at this point!

what kind of welder were you using? i have a lincoln 150 mig welder, it is gas fed type so it works really well, im betting you had to run it at a pretty low power to get it from blowing thru the titanium?

Yeah, I used a mig. It wasn't so much the heat level as it was how runny the weld felt. It's like it didn't want to cool quick enough, and ran like water. I was just using standard wire, so I'm sure the correct wire for titanium would work better. It's on and it's solid. That's all that matters to me .

indeed, i know what you mean, i remember trying to weld aluminum intake piping with my mig, what a mess that made.. you really need a tig for aluminum and titanium... i am currently bidding on an exhaust for a xr200 honda that is made by big gun. its aluminum and looks hella nice. i'm hoping the piping fits, and i dont have to section it to make it fit.
