Fuel Petcock for Carbuerated Hawk 250

After awhile of storing it outside under a cover, I have the Hawk back in my garage and the fuel petcock is slowly dripping. It seems to be coming out of the selector switch itself.



Has anyone replaced it and have the part # or a link handy for a quality replacement?


I have found some that claim to be for the bike on amazon like so:

Get a real good look at the weld that attaches the petcock to the tank. Run your finger along it. See if it's wet. I'll bet it is.

If so, take the tank off, drain it and JB Weld around the actual weld. Put a vacuum to the tank to suck the JB Weld inwards. Worked pretty good on mine. There is a YouTube video of a guy showing you how to do it.

The quality of China welding, and the metal itself, aren't quite up to standard. Pinholes either exist from the gate or develop over time.

Thanks for the suggestion, the weld is perfect tho. It's just leaking from under the selector, I think theres an o-ring in there that slowly gets torn up.


But the cheap one on the bike doesnt look easily rebuildable. I may drill it apart anyways to see what's wrong with it, still looking for a better replacement.

For everyday general parts, I go to eBay. I've found everything from a kill switch to throttle parts to custom battery and solenoid cables.

A petcock for a Hawk is about $25 on ebay. All new. Frankly, the rebuild kit will cost less than half of that, depending, but add in the labor and solvents, etc. and the replacement begins to look pretty sweet
No oxidation or aging on the new one either. I guess it depends on what kind of shape it is in, how much time you want to devote to this, and whether or not you have the patience or extra $10-15.

Flypig Hawk 250 Fuel Petcock

This one bolts right up and has a larger inner diameter than the OEM Hawk petcock. I could tell a little difference in torque with the slight increase in fuel flow: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thank you for the suggestion Dusman.


It's not easily possible to rebuild the stock one, it is not even riveted. Instead the casting has posts that seem to be peened over. I guess you could dremel them out and then drill new holes etc but thats starting to be alot of work to put in on such a cheap part as Thumper points out.



I did end up ordering a "BMP" motorsports one off of ebay, pretty much the same one in my Amazon link.



I'm pretty disappointed with it. The selector is very stiff and the casting is poor. It had a big long sliver of metal coming off the threads on the petcock, and the "nut" is does not fit very well on those same threads of the petcock body. And the O-ring on the petcock was gummy, and weird feeling, which I've noticed happening in other cheap parts, so I replaced it right off the bat.


Going to see if it holds gas later today or over the weekend LOL.
