2017 bashan storm/stallion

Hey there,

So I just bought the 2017 bashan storm/stallion

http://www.apscusa.com/New-2017-Stal...l?referrer=rss

It hasn't came yet, I ordered it today. Don told me it'll be a 3 day shipping. Great price too. This is my first bike, I've been practicing on my roommates 2016 bashan brozz and I love it. Did I make the right purchase? I'm going to be driving for fun and work some days. What should I do when I first get it? Change oils? Please let me know (:

Welcome, and the Bashan bikes are pretty good out of the crate. It is advisable to change all of the fluids if you can, but at the very least start with the motor oil. It is also a good dea to put loctite on many of the bolts and check/tighten the spokes.

Congratulations! I think there are a number of threads explaining all the little things which must be done, including fluid changes and tightenvarious things with loctite to avoid things falling off.

Welcome and congrats! Not to be the buzzkill, but let's hope that ASPCUSA won't take forever to actually get the bike out to you, if at all. No one has reported being ripped off by them, and all have either gotten a bike, eventually, or a refund, but it seems like you cannot simply take their word as of the past year or so. Just keep on top of it!

I talked to Don himself, he said I ordered the last one in his california inventory and it's shipping out tomorrow and will be here in about 3 days, the delivery drivers will be contacting me Tuesday probably, I'll keep everyone updated on it and I got a red one since it was the last one. I can't wait for it and the seat height is great for me lol

What product do I use for changing all of that, and what oil should I use

Oil is always a preference, and you will get quite a few different answers. A very popular oil with myself and many other members here is Shell Rotella T4 15w-40 diesel oil. I have used this in many of my previous bikes, and both of my current ones. It has the proper ratings for wet clutch use (JASO MA), and being a diesel oil it also has an additive package for higher thermal stability (good for air cooled engines) and compression additives (makes it great for the gearbox). It is also a very easy to find and affordable quality oil. 4 quart jugs are $13-15 at most WalMarts, and less than $20 at most auto parts stores. 2 4 quart jugs is enough for 6 oil changes on these motors (1.5 quarts).

Bleeding/flushing the brake fluid that comes with the bike is also a good idea. I used Valvoline Synthetic DOT3/4 compatible. Again, easy to find and relatively inexpensive.

On the subject of brakes, before you first ride the bike it is a good idea to use some brake parts cleaner and clean off the brake rotors. They will come with a nice coating of oil and grime that you will want to clean off before you start bedding the brakes in.

It is also a very good idea to change the fork oil for actual fork oil. Most of these chinese made bikes are shipped with low or uneven amounts of oil in the forks, and it is not actual fork oil to begin with. Some people prefer to run ATF, but I always recommend actual fork oil as it contains anti-foaming agents that help keep it stable during the normal operation of the forks. As far as what brand to get, much like motor oil it's all personal preference. I love PJ-1 brand stuff. 10 or 15wt suits most riders, I run 15. As far as the volume for each fork, that is something I do not know off-hand for the bike you ordered. Hopefully another Bashan owner can chime in.

Also, since I mentioned PJ1, it is also a good idea to lube the clutch and throttle cables before riding. I absolutely love PJ1's cable lube, and I have tried a lot of products. One can of the stuff has lasted me going on 3 years and 4 bikes and I probably still have half of it left lol.

There are many other things I could go over, but you would end up with something akin to War and Peace for my reply. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to shoot me a PM on here.

just an FYI

Katelyn0915 . i'm a little concerned. you need to take time and check out a lot of the information concerning these china bikes on this forum. since you will be likely building this bike it's important to know that if EVERYTHING IS NOT CHECKED OUT, these things can really ruin your life. ie, front brake caliper coming loose during a ride.

this stuff can come back to bite you like a rattlesnake bite in the back of the calf, DEAD SERIOUS STUFF.

all good points mega...like you say too much to cover. here's the war and peace version for motorcycles

Almost here!!!

So I ordered on Sunday, shipped out on Tuesday and today I received the shipping info and it should be here tomorrow, it was 5 hours away from me this morning. I'm so excited and can't wait. I'll be sure to have someone that knows what they are doing help me build this. Any other things I should know before? Thank you.

Check and tighten the wheel spokes. You can find instructions on Youtube how to do this easily enough, and a spoke wrench can be purchased at most bike shops fairly inexpensively.
