Turkey anyone? Happy Thanksgiving!
Are you having a turkey dinner tomorrow?
I considered spatchcocking and smoking. I've never done this, but it looks delicious! You remove the spine and flatten it in the smoker. It gets more even smoke this way. Salted/peppered is recommened, but you can get more creative. We decided to try this sometime later this year. Maybe even for Christmas SpatchcockedSmoked.jpg We decided to go for traditional oven roasting, with stuffing and giblet gravy. There are mashed potatoes in the fridge, but we'll make roasted small potatoes, green beans and butternut squash. RoastedTurkey.jpg Maybe you are deep frying? This also looks tasty. Some people never go back once they try it. I have a propane burner (part of my beer brewing equipment), but would need a big pot! DeepFriedTurkey.jpg

I prefer ham to turkey, so it seems that I am in the minority of this family. Therefore, I must suffer the slings and arrows of insults such as ‘WTF is wrong with grandpa”, “whadayameanyadonliketurkey?”, “hippie commie bastard”, etc. That said, our SIL has been brining the bird for the last 36 hours and that makes it at least tolerable to me.
Pass the mashed taters and the homemade butter, please.

I'm not much of a turkey person either. Honey baked ham, deer roast and wild duck are my favorite. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

The wife and I did a 12 pounder with corn and scalloped potatoes. Pumpkin pie for desert. Baked the turkey in the bag smothered in margarine with a sliced onion thrown in for good measure. Came out pretty good.
In other news, I have uploaded a video. I have specs on my PE28FL setup. Would appreciate any input. I think it's pretty good, but still bogs when I crack the throttle to half. I'm beginning to thing that's normal? I don't know...

We will have ham for Christmas if I don't do the smoked turkey. I like ham too. But the roasted turkey and roasted potatoes and gravy turned out exceptional today. Once a year!

Still not a fan of ground buzzards but how my SIL did his up was tolerable. Actually, it was pretty good, so I did do seconds.

We cheated this year for the first time. Got one of those "traditional" meals from Raley's. It turned out great! Fed eight people, with leftovers to disperse to the family. (we did add a favorite side and Hawaiin rolls, of course). All the included food turned out perfect. Even the green bean almondine turned out good. Beans were firm, not overcooked. Best part? No prepping for three days, $89.95. Done.

I actually prefer ham, but my wife won't eat pork. That's why I cook a turkey. This year Thanksgiving dinner was cheap, considering how high the price of groceries have gotten. The turkey was $.99/lb. and the potatoes were $.66 for a 5 pound bag. With a dressing, gravy, and a couple of pies total cost was about $21, and we've still got a lot of turkey and potatoes left. My wife is going to make some kind of casserole today with the rest of the turkey. The two pies cost almost as much as the rest.
