Hawk 250

Hello to all riders! I’m new to this forum and still working my way through. I have a 2017 Hawk 250. Only mods so far is LED lights, battery, and carb upgrade. Trying to work out a few kinks with the oil going into the air box. Hopefully I will have that all good by the weekend so I can ride again. I have only put on about 300 miles on mine so far but love riding it. Hopefully soon I will have all the mods done and enjoy it so much more. I live in Maryland and I thought the title process went pretty smooth. Spent more time waiting for the title than anything but I’m really happy with the over all outcome. I think the bike is a great looking and the price is unbeatable.

Welcome aboard As far as the oil going into the air box sounds like to much oil. How much oil did you put in it? Should take a little over a quart. Check the oil level with the site glass while the bike is in the vertical position and not leaning over on the kick stand. Should be mid way of the site glass.

I've found that a quart of oil seems to fill mid-way up the site glass. The RPS owner's manual calls for 1.6 quarts which is way too much. I drained the garbage oil from the factory before ever starting the engine and added about 1 1/2 quarts of fresh oil (following the manual...doh! My mistake...) and it was way too much. Drained the oil out the bottom until it seemed about right.

With 300 miles on the Hawk you should do a valve adjustment. Another rookie mistake I made was tweaking the carb and replacing the main jet before the valve adjustment which I found out just recently was the backwards way to do it. Once the valves are adjusted you can get a better gauge on how lean or rich the engine is probably running (in almost every case it'll run lean on the stock carb until proper adjustments are made). Tons of information here and on YouTube for everything you need to know to make adjustments, upgrade to aftermarket parts, etc.
