KPX 250 Valve Adjustment

I have over 750 miles on my KPX and I am now hearing some louder tappet noise. Has anyone on this forum checked or adjusted their KPX valves? I'm just wondering what adventure I have ahead of me. I have adjusted valves on my Bashan Storm and my old SL350 Honda. I expect this to be similar. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Should be similar to most OHC Hondas. Take off the access caps and set your lash. Specs are likely similar to a crf230 engine.

I checked mine when I first got it. The exhaust valve is not too bad to get to. Need to remove a couple of things to make it easier. See post #24 in my thread here. The exhaust valve did not need adjustment, as it turns out.

The intake valve I was not able to check because of too much stuff in the way. I might be able to get in there with the right feeler gauge set. To set the rear one we may need to get one of those valve adjustment tools similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Baosity-Unive...05&sr=8-3&th=1

Edit: Specs for the valves are .08 mm intake, and .10 mm exhaust.

Yep, valve spec is almost exactly the same as a crf230f engine.

I couldn't wait any longer for JerryHawk250 to make a video, so I tackled adjusting the valves today. This is my first motorcycle in 36 years and I've never adjusted valves before but that's what I signed up for buying this bike.

I removed the plastics, seat, horn, and bar supporting the front cowling. and I used a couple of pieces of 2x4 to prop up the tank about 4 inches. Once I figured out I needed to do the adjustment at compression, it wasn't that hard accessing both the intake and exhaust valves. (Unfortunately, I attempted to adjust the valves when the engine wasn't at compression, so I don't know how close they still were.) A tappet adjusting tool would be helpful but there isn't much room so it will need to have a short handle. Now that I've pretty much gone through the whole bike and have had the plastics off twice now, I figure I should be able to do the next valve adjustment in 30 to 45 min.

The bike started right up and seem to sound a little quieter. Took it out for a 50 mile ride and it didn't miss a beat.

And what? No video. You might have to show Tom how to adjust the valves. He seem to struggle with the intake side.

OK now you're just hurting my feelings.

IdahoRider, how did you do the intake? What tools? I was planning on buying those specialty valve-adjustment tools and a long set of feeler gauges, specifically for the intake side.

I used the feeler gauge from this set. I cut down the handle length to the adjustment tools but end up just using the tappet tool to adjust with then a socket wrench to tighten the nut.

Once the tank is propped up there is plenty of room to access the valves. I also emailed Venom yesterday to ask if they have any guides/manuals on how they do the adjustments and they said they would get back to me within 24 hrs.

Thanks. I don't think I had the tank that high, so maybe that was the main problem.

If you need more room on the intake side you can always remove the motor mount brackets. That's what I had to do on my Ghost and X22R.
