CSC SG250 exhaust options
Hello all. 2022 CSC SG250 with 3600 miles on it so far. I'm looking to get every little bit out of this bike that I can, since my commute to work is on a highway at 60mph, and with my fat behind on the bike, it tends to not be able to hold that speed in a headwind or up any kind of .05% grade LOL.
So far, I have done my best to tune the carb for my altitude, around 3600ft. I have also replaced the front sprocket with a 16T, and a new chain at the same time of course. It's better at holding speed on flat ground now, but still not quite where I would like it to be. I'm thinking about getting a Nibbi 28 PWK carb, with flange adaptor and pod air filter, and I'd also like to improve the exhaust flow, just to get some more air into the engine so I can go up a little on the jetting. Has anyone taken apart the exhaust for one of these bikes yet, or found a solution for them that works well? I have searched through the forum and haven't seen any results, so please share your knowledge with me if you can! Thanks |

Removing the catalytic converter will help it breathe much better. On a stock engine just tune the stock carb. Even if you get the PWK28 you will still need to tune it.

Of course, with a new carb it would need tuned, but do you think that changing the carb itself will yield any improvements?
Additionally, most of my knowledge of vehicles is about cars, so excuse my ignorance, but I don't see a catalytic converter on the exhaust, is it something that has to be cut out? Thanks again for the help! |

I'm pretty sure you have a catalytic converter if you have the stock exhaust. It's will either be located in the header pipe or the Muffler. If it's in the header pipe you will se a slight bulge in the pipe. You can cut it in two to remove it or just weld a piece of exhaust pipe in it place. If in the exhaust just cut off the muffler and install an after market exhaust.
You probably won't see any real gain in power with the PKW on a stock engine. I might be a little more responsive though.

In case anyone else finds this thread while looking, the catalytic converter IS in the muffler, right at the input of it. I've ordered a "universal" slip on exhaust that appears to have the right measurements, I will add more details when it comes in.

That makes it easier than hacking up the cat and welding it back. I know there are slip-ons that look similar to the stock exhaust.
