I wonder what constitutes Lifan "racing" engine? I think Hooper sells the wiring/electrics for installing the engines on old Hondas. I wonder if the Thumpertalk crowd would be happy to hear about these damn commie engines finding their way into old Japanese bikes? After all, just a few months ago, if you mentioned that you wanted a Chinese bike, the replies would be to look for a 1982 Honda so and so instead for $2000 and you just need to put another $2000 to get it running, which makes it a much better deal than a $950 brand new Chinese bike...

I e-mailed the seller and asked some questions about the aftermarket exhaust, if it bolted up to the lifan motor without any mods,if so then we could have another exchangeable part. If I ever get the time, I'd take the one off my 200x and try it, they are shaped the same and has mounting holes in the same locations, only thing is, these header pipes get really hot and will melt plastic if it is anywhere close. The head pipe is quite larger that the factory one, allows for more exhaust flow and will give a noticeable power increase with the proper jetting.
damm, that was quick, just hear form the seller, the exhaust and motor bolted right up with no mods, he ordered the Cobra exhaust from dennis kirk, 83-85 honda atc 200x. Who's gonna be the first to try it on their china bike?

IMHO, you'll probably end up losing low-end grunt...I bought a Cobra years ago for my xl250r and didn't think it was really worth it - and that was on a bike. Plus, I think Beerslayer made a good point elsewhere about noise factor and how the trade off for more power is likely not offset by the "piss off" factor on the trails that increases. Still, we're all extremely curious about modding these engines (from what I gather on these forums) and exhaust is a pretty basic (and good!) place to start.

ok, I'll see what I can do this weekend, take some pics and post them. just from taking a close look at it, the mounting holes may need to be relocated, all the bends and curves seem to be in the right places. These exhausts are loud, but somewhat mild compared to a Harley running straight pipes. I wouldn't ride it during hunting season, I'll put it that way.

well, I finally got around to trying an exhaust transplant, with 2 different types of aftermarket exhaust. One was the Cobra and the other was a generic brand, both had the same size head pipe, but one was longer than the other to where the muffler part sliped on. both head pipes bolted right up, but when it came to the other ends, the mono shock was right in the way of the bends. I think there is a member here that has a chinese motor mounted on an XR frame, anyway we could talk him into trying it out on a chinese frame?

i got a custom exhaust made for my chinese atv as it was cheaper than buying one off the shelf. instant horsepower increase and its actually quieter than the stock one. then i bolted the stock one onto my bro,s honda atc200 with only a little plastic guard mod.

Yeh, theres a local guy here who hand maked all the yzf 250 and 400 headers and pipes for the local factory riders. i was put onto him by a friend who got him to make a new muffler for his cr500 into a 250 frame

its actually a 250cc watercooled. Its called a dragon. Had to change the jets after putting the pipe on as it was running lean, went from a #105 to a #120 main and from #42 to #45 pilot with the jet needle on the richest clip setting(could probably go to a #48
