2 questions..1 exhaust, and 1 synthetic oil..

I have been riding my Brozz 250 as much as I can, and my confidence on the road has really increased . I want my bike to run well, and last as long as possible, so this morning I went to install my oil cooler, and I mounted the cooler itself as high as I could, and was following tknj99's thread , and using the pics as reference as to how high to mount it, and I did mount it, but as much as I tried I couldn't get it to keep from barely scraping the rear end edge of my front fender. I also had a hard time with the bottom bracket, and bolts being up against my exhaust. I want to upgrade the exhaust,so I took it back off. I am pretty much soured right now about the cooler, and was wanting to ask if I started using synthetic oil, and no cooler, would that be enough engine protection ? My second question concerns my exhaust. I am kicking around , whether to gut the cat, or buy one of the aftermarket exhaust . I have a flux core wire welder. If I were to gut the cat, and keep my stock muffler, would that defeat the purpose of gutting the cat. The exit (baffle ?) pipe on the stock muffler is barely big enough to get a finger in, and there is no way to remove the baffle with out cutting it. I think I could neatly cut it out though, but I don't want it to be unnecessarily loud . I welcome all advice ..Thanks

Shim the rear fender mounting with a couple of washers. This will tilt the fender enough to give you the extra clearance.

Don't be soured with the oil cooler.. you can do it!
For the bolts being too long on the bottom mount point, i had the same issue although i was able to mount as is, but i later angle grinded the bolts shorter to allow better clearance on the exhaust header flange if needed to remove it. You should be able to mount the cooler high enough that it does not rub whatsoever on the fender, you may need to check again on your positioning.
If you know how to weld, you can remove the stock exhaust and follow this video to gut that cat:
You should end up with more power while retaining the quiet nature of the stock exhaust.. and if its not loud enough, you can always drill a few holes in the endcap

Thanks... I will give it a try, but will deal with my exhaust first, so I don't have to remove it to do it.

I actually spoke with Jeff about PS providing headers with no cats. Firm No. Said they have to many issues with emissions regulations now.

I saw his video, and liked the fact that there would be no possiblity of the pipe becoming misaligned , like would be possible if a person just cut it off, and replace it with a length of pipe.. I used to have an old Century wire feed welder, but it finally quit working, so I bought one of those Chicago brand from Harbor Freight a couple years ago, but have not even went through the first spool of wire on it. I don't care for it as much as my old one, but I can get the job done. It won't look good, but seeing how the pipe is new ,I should be able to get a good enough weld without burning holes in it. Will my stock muffler hold me back? Should I try modifying it ?

Some of the ideas on this site are great, but I'm not really in on the oil cooler... I'm not against it either. I've added them to my atv and my Suzuki 1100, I just dont see a real big benefit on this motor. I mean it was designed to run in 3rd world countries on low grade oil that seldom got changed, and use gasoline that was probably less than 80 octane.

We use oil in them that's light years ahead of anything available back in the 1970s, and super refined gasoline with strict quality controls. I think they'll probably be fine without a cooler. And if I'm wrong, I can replace the piston, jug, and head for 100bux. Lol.

It does look cool though.

True.. i originally did not plan an oil cooler until the price went down to $18 with tax, it was a price that was a no-brainer.. i think the primary benefit will be longer interval oil changes, ie.. 1000mi instead of 500mi..
Its definitely not a necessity but im glad i did it and happy knowing the engine is a bit happier overall

And it's fun to customize your bike. We dont need to change carbs, exhaust, etc... it's just cheap fun...like Legos for adults. Lol!
