GY6 150cc Regulator Voltage
My regulator has been overcharging the battery. I bought a new regulator but it blows the fuse at the battery. There is 15A fuses at this location. Is it the correct fuse? Any other suggestions?

Could the battery have a shorted plate or something? What is the batt voltage after resting?

Check out this video...
It shows a little diagram depicting the fuse as a 15A fuse for a 150cc gy6. It will also help you diagnose the generator (stator) & regulator. You posted earlier that your battery case was bulging. If so I hope you aren't using this battery. It is definitely a severe hazard if it was being overcharged. If the battery has been overcharged to the point of the case deforming it will impact the battery chemistry inside the battery cells. It is VERY possible that the cells will attempt to draw too much current resulting in blowing the fuse. It's possible that your generator (stator) is bad but it's not a very complicated part. Just magnets wrapped with wire mounted on a circular plate. The wiring in the stator can break but usually not from normal wear. Usually they will only break from damage to the edge of the engine (like from dropping the bike on that side). The magnets can also break (again from damage) but as long as the metal remains in place the magnet will still work so there's not much to worry about here. If the crankshaft or stator plate are bent it may be a problem. But again this would be from damage, not from normal wear. |
