hawk 250 chain

hello. im looking into a new chain for my hawk 250. the bike is brand new and only has 110 miles on it. i noticed after adjusting the chain and riding, the chain becomes loose and gets caught on the nubs on the tire. what is a better replacement chain?

I bought a Niche 428 Xring chain (128 link) for my Brozz after 200mi and very happy with it, any similar chain should be a very nice upgrade over stock

My chains at 400 miles, and stretched so much I can barely get it into acceptable slack :\ and I have maintained it twice. Guess the xring chain is in my future too.

Depends on the budget, but pretty much any decent brand 130 link 428 chain is a good upgrade for the Hawk. Tight budget you can go with a unibear or just a standard DID chain. That will usually put it at 20 bucks, maybe less.

No matter what you get though, it will be better than the standard hawk OEM chain. They are notoriously crap. Some members have done a few tricks to make them last longer than normal, but even pushing it they only got a couple thousand out of them.

Buying an X-ring or O-ring chain for off road riding is a waste of money. Dirt chews up the rubber rings. Then it gets into the grease that the factory injected into the bushings. The the bushings grind themselves to death. Keep a standard chain lubed with wax (dirt doesn't stick to it) and you'll save both money and reduce your maintenance intervals.

Adjust the stock chain as soon as you finish assembling the bike. The two Hawks that I've owned had zero play from the factory. Riding with a tight chain is an invitation for premature stretch at the best. At worst you'll snap the chain and perhaps damage other components. The front sprocket cover and rear hub are usually the first things to get thrashed.

If you plan to ride off road the keep your chain adjusted accordingly. I myself allow for about two inches of play when the bike is on the side stand. As soon as I sit my butt on the seat this goes down to about one inch. Going over a decent bump will bring the chain taught.

Once you try a DID X ring chain you'll never go back. Yes they're expensive but they last a very long time.
