Head Scratching MICHIGAN HAWK 250 owners?? Insurance Questions

Anyone here from MI?? If so what insurance co did you go with? And how’d you get the Hawk and it’s VIN to be accepted online with the insurance company?? I’ve tried Progressive, Dairyland, and Rider insurance and none of them have RPS or Haosen listed as a choice for he bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

I have Progressive. Just call them to get it sorted out. They don't have RPS or Haosen listed in their database, so they will have to list it as Other make and Other model, then on the insurance card they will fill in the type of bike it is. My card says RPS Hawk.

Geico online. $99 a year. Even if you have two bikes it's still $99 for both.

My Hawk costs me... $68 a year. Multi-vehicle discount, multi policy discount, over 10 years with no claims, no tickets, etc. Sorta helps. I think the only way I can get it any cheaper would be to get married lol.

Call the companies directly, they will be able to better help you with odd balls like the hawk. Next step will be the SOS. I asked yesterday and she said bring the invoice and the MSO/MCO, as long as it says motorcycle and not off road only/atv it won't be a problem. Other option is to do a title conversion and have it inspected, no fun.

I envy you guys, i dont have my hawk yet, but for my 2007 honda vtx1300 its $306 for 12 months of just plpd. $197 of that goes to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association, and its going up to $220 in july i believe. Every vehicle has to pay that fee, have 4 bikes then you pay it 4 times...

My VFR1200 costs me over $900 a year to insure (full comprehensive). It doesn't help that I have increased coverage on things like uninsured motorist and $250 deductibles, but even if I ran the standard 500 deductible and coverage it only goes down maybe 80 bucks.

This was with zero replacement and minimum liability. $1k/$1k on collision and comprehensive would have been $690, but im sure they only value the bike around $2500-3k if that.

The Hawk will probably be around $270 if i can get it before July 1, then it will likely be around $320 when the MCCA fee goes up.

Thanks for the tip Duck9191. That fee is such a rip!!! It’s be great if we could stop getting ripped on insurance in this state. Oh well, I can’t change it, can’t wait to get my Hawk Monday though!! Thx again!

There is a bill to overhaul the bs no fault system, but it's likely to be vetoed until Whitmore gets her 45 cent a gallon gas tax. YAY... Not.

Let us know how your experience with the SOS goes, I have heard it varies branch to branch. I've been inquiring about how hard it will be to get a kit car (df goblin or exomotive exocet) street legal and I have gotten all kinds of answers, MI leaves way to much up to the person at the counter of the SOS.

I'm insured with State Farm, which is probably in every state. In WV we need proof of insurance before we can get a license, and registration, so I just took my MCO into my agents office, and they pulled up a list on their computer, and found what they needed. My Hawk's proof of insurance under make is actually CHNGQNG HA , which is probably Chingqing Haosen . They printed me off a proof of insurance right there, and on my way home, I stopped at a business in town that handles the DMV work, and let them deal with my title, and registration.
