Head Scratching Hawk/Storm Exhaust Temp, Idle & Blinkers

I purchased a Bashan/Roketta Storm 250 a few weeks ago and am currently in the break-in period. I have been letting it just run for a while to help it break-in faster. I have two questions. One: how hot should the exhaust be? I measured the temperature with an infra-red thermometer and it's about 311°C/592°F at the bend right off the head. Two: is there an easy way to determine idle speed without fancy equipment? I adjusted the screw on the side of the carb to what sounds OK to me but I don't have a whole lot of experience. I thought about maybe doing a slow-motion recording on my phone and using a video editing program to count the power strokes but that sounds kind of ridiculous. Three: should the turn signal on the Bashan Storm make an audible *tick-tick* sound to let you know the signal is on? My bike makes no noise at all when the turn signals are on. OH! and can anybody recommend a good/easy digital gauge to me (Samdo/cheap eBay "universal)? The stock one SUCKS terribly! Thanks for any help anybody can give me! I'm enjoying the bike so far...aside from having to basically guess what screw go where!

with a bike sitting running with no air flow to help cool the exhaust...

bloody hot..

never let a new motor/bore idle to try and bed the rings in..
only part of a motor that needs running in is the bore...
all other parts start to deteriorate from the second you start the motor..

you can buy a cheap tach for a few dollars wire from it just raps around the spark plug lead..
and it counts spark impulses.. they do have a very slow refresh rate but for what you
want they are perfect....and setting gearing..

I have the Bashan Storm AKA Roketa DB08 etc etc.. .

The exhaust is Catted and moves about as much air as breathing through a reed so it's going to run hot hot hot and probably won't kick start with the stock pipes on there. A good roll start still should work if ever the need arises.

Like already mentioned don't sit at idle for more than a few minutes, 5-10 minutes on a cold morning is my personal max.

I started riding mine in May of last year and still sometimes forget to push the blinker button to un-blink the blinker. The only ticking on the bike should be the valves, they didn't give us a kill switch, proper fitting shifter, sturdy cargo rack or accurate speedo/odometer. We did get USD forks, hand guards and really shiny oddball sized wheels though so that's cool.

Thank You

Thanks for the replies guys! I usually point a huge fan at it when idling. I just didn't this time because I wanted to test the exhaust temperature to see if I was running too rich or lean.

@Pete - Just bought the one below from Amazon! Thanks for the suggestion and advice! What is the suggested idle RPM of these engines?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CR2IC2Q

@chiptoothy - You're right, my legs are not strong enough to kick-start it! I thought I was just being a wussy but I guess not? I wonder if there's a way to add a "ticker" to the blinkers? I bet there's a relatively easy way to tie one into the lines. What do you mean about there not being a proper fitting shifter? I have seen a lot of people saying it sucks and upgrading it. Any recommendations for that? What are USD forks? Also, I see your signature mentions "seat mod." What exactly did you do? It kinda hurts my ass as-is.

Do you guys or anyone else have any digital speedo/tach/etc. gauges that work relatively well and install easily on this bike? Thanks again!

Turn signal relay that appears to have a built in signal beeper ( according to reviews ) for $3. https://www.amazon.com/TOOGOO-Flashe.../dp/B00CMO3V0S

Seperate beeper alarm that can be wired into the leads for the turn signal relay for $8 (for 2). https://www.amazon.com/Icstation-85d...AJQEEJM5XCW5K5

This is the shifter I use. Moves the peg inboard quite a bit getting it more out of harms way and opening up some much needed room for the foot. Swapping out the bolt it comes with for a button head allen will make installation much easier.

As far as seat comfort goes, some guys will put different foam on their seat for comfort. Some guys on here swear by this thing. I have yet to try it, but it's on my wish list to try. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1
