Show us pictures of your childhood automobile

72 chrysler newport. (Same color as pic). Stock photo pictured. This was a dead ringer of ours. Please post a nearest example of yours if not available.

I remember is was big as a motor home. My sister and I could sunbathe on the rear dash.

I can't find a pic of the family wagon. It was a cream color with wood grain 1978 Plymouth Volare Station Wagon. Powered by a 225ci Slant Six. Its where my love affair with that engine began I think. That car took my family all over the place when I was a kid. Many camping trips. Which I always folded the seat down and slept in the car in my sleeping bag. If I ever see one in good shape it will come home with me.

This was identical to dad's 57 Chevy work Truck. I can remember riding in the back of the truck.

1967 El Camino, white.
HO-327 (325hp) with a two speed Power Glide and a 411 rear end. Malibu package.
That was back when a guy could pile a bunch of people in the back with ice chests (after you got someone's older brother to buy you beer) and head out to the lake for a dip.
Them's were the days.........

1967 Dodge Coronet 383, ours was blue. I remember every time we visited my Grandparents out in the country we had to go through a four way stop that was out in the middle of no-where. Mom would look at my Dad and say "No Edwin", us three boys in the back would scream "do it" and he would lay two strips of melted rubber down the asphalt. Good times......

My older brother had a Blue Cornet 440. He also had a 69 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 383 Magnum. He still kicking his self for selling that one.

You guys had cool cars, I had a '78 Honda Civic that I thought was cool in its own way. I kept it shiny and maintained as if it were a jewel.

A couple years ago I decided I wanted one again, figured I could get a decent one for pocket change, discovered they've become collectibles to some degree and fetch a pretty penny.

Mine was as plain and simple as they come; white 2 door, manual everything and a one speaker AM radio was the only luxury item. My parents bought it new for $3200 OTD and it was passed to me in about 1988 or so. I like the car in general, but am most intrigued by the CVCC system. That thing got great gas mileage and I believe was the only car at the time that passed emissions requirements without a catalytic converter. The smog test guys had a hard time believing it and often had to consult a manual or call the state office for verification. I remember one that wouldn't even check, he was adamant that every car that year, and a few years before it, had a cat and refused to test it.

Our first new car after we got married was a Silver 1975 Civic Hatchback with the two speed semi auto. $3558 OTD. For the most part it was a hoot but you could open the hood, spit on the engine, and it would stall. Replaced all the ignition bits with Accell and the problem was gone. That was after I got tired of having it towed to the dealer.

I remember a large dealership in Chicago on Devon called Carr's Honda that had seemingly hundreds of these funky cars in the mid/late 70's. I know they moved to Western Ave. but I remember them on Devon.

I am always jealous of those who had 'plain' 'boring' cars and appreciated them. I was always thinking that there must be something better for me. The '79 Fairmont with the V8 that was my father's car from new, the '74 Buick Electra with the 455 (I liked that car, but it was wrecked when I was 17) and others. I wish I could have been one to settle and appreciate what I had until I had the job and money to buy something nicer. Not only that, all my cool cars, for the most part, I never bothered to take photos of them! I know I had taken some, but they were physical photos, and I don't know if I still have them, if at all.

Edit: The 1993 Mustang GT I sold way back in '02, I tracked down the email that had the photos from the guy who bought it from me; alas, no link or photos attached, just the random letters/numbers where a photo used to exist, LOL (the email is in my hotmail account from '02)

I remember the weekends during college I would drive up to Santa Barbara to visit a friend going to school there in the late 80's early 90's. It was one huge party with women EVERYWHERE!! One weekend, a mutual friend had just bought a '68 Roadrunner with a 4-speed/383 (rare for a California car where it seems ALL muscle cars had automatics) and brought it up there. Wow, what a fast car (in my mind, and for the time)! I remember all the rich people getting blown away in their rich, old money cars (Mercedes, BMW were the primary cars of the day for Californians with money). Ha ha ha--eat the rich!

I think Carr's is still a going concern but I'm not a four wheel Honda guy anymore. Last one I looked at was in 84 and I thought I was at a BMW dealer with the attitude I got. Went across the street and bought a new Plymouth for two grand less.

Our Civic came from Mcgrath Buick/Honda on North Ave. in Addison. Mcgrath Honda is now in Elgin.

I've had my share of boring cars but I'd love to have my 67 Ambassador DPL two door hard top again.
