Nice. It's good to see an objective evaluation of the Chinese bike segment from somebody in the business.

While I'm sure that I could find a Wiseco piston to fit in our Zongshen Honda clone Beast, I'm not sure that I'd want to overbore it. I like the idea of cheap original parts from the Chinese manufacturers. Besides, new parts in our machines often costs less than machine shop time.
Interesting article. Thanks for posting it.

I think it was a good article as well. The part about americans being addicted to cheap stuff is pretty fair.
Another thing he hit on is replacing assemblies rather than individual parts. His own example of a 2 year old atv, the customer could have bought a whole engine cheaper than parts and labor I bet. |

For the cost of a machine shop a $50 in top end parts is a fast alternative to have a fresh top end.

Pretty good article.
He is being fair about the parts issue... its a fear I think any one who is looking to buy chinese has had. Most of the reason I joined this forum was to get connected with people who had first hand experience with chinese bikes. Which bikes have 'parts support' (a dealer you know can get you parts for your particular bike) or are well known enough for parts to be availble online, or the bike parts match a honda or yamaha and you can buy those anywhere. Even the issue with a bike becoming 'obsolete' is a worry some have... for example you by a bike from vbike... he sells 50 of a particular model and then doesnt get any more of those bikes in... will he still be able to get parts- how about in 5 years? (nothing against vbike I was just using that as an example because that was my exact worry when I was considering buy one of the hensim 250's) My solution? Move close enough to fastdoc... he can fix anything! lmao

Thanks for posting the great link, Jim. In case you guys are unaware, Dan lives in North Idaho.
http://www.dansmc.com/ Dan is also a Christian; he gives his testimony on this page of his website. http://www.dansmc.com/Bible1.htm Dan is a decent, helpful person, and a straight talker. I think he offers good advice in every subject area concerning motorcycles, including Chinese motorcycles. Spud
