Carb problem
I have a Sunny Motors Streak 250. It had been stored for a long time. I haven't had it long.
At first it would start with full choke and idle roughly but as soon as you touched the throttle it died. One of the throttle cables into the carb (PZ 30) wasn't working at all so I replaced that. Now it starts just as before but when I try the throttle it's not affected at all. It doesn't even die when I give it throttle. I haven't tried to adjust the carb so far. Any ideas??? |

its likely not connected to the piston/plunger in the carb. sounds like the jet(s) are plugged. take carb off, if not allready done cut slots in the saftey screws with a dremel, take the bowl off and use a single wire from a wire brush to eliminate any blockage in the idle jet, and a cleaner for a oxy torch to clean out the main jet.. check the bowl for any crud, and give the body a general cleaning. take the time to figure out the cable to plunger assembly, and check that the cable is connected to the throttle handle properly as well, also tricky if you havent done it before. you can tell the throttle is conneted properly if it snaps back when released. if thats happening now and the throttle seems to have no effect, perhaps the needle is missing the clip or retainer is incorect.. the needle should be firmly attached to the plunger ant not move freely in and out of it but rather with it. there are some videos on youtube showing the proper way to assembe that. hope this helps ,sometimes I just confuse people more with my advise! |

Nomenclature wrong
I'm sure my nomenclature is wrong. I assume when you refer to the plunger cable you are meaning the cable that threads thru the top. Is that right?
It has one cable from the throttle handle that splits with one going into the top and the other to the rotating device that I assume is the throttle. I've never dealt with a carb like this. |

From online pics, one is a choke cable the other is a throttle cable.

Some carbs do have two cables for the throttle. I am not that familiar but I believe the second cable is called a 'throttle return'.

I'm also thinking the carb is fouled real bad. Sitting for a long period with the 10% ethanol gas will gum up most.
It would probably be much simpler for me to order a new one. At least I would have some confidence in it. The prices I've seen aren't too bad. I see listed Taotao SunL JCL, Keihin, and Mikuni brands. Any suggestions. |

As Humanbeing says, that's a pumper carb. I had one on my old '81 XL250S and it was a pleasure to kick start.

Yes, with the exception of the detent. If you examine the pictures in the Mikuni link, you'll see a metal tab mounted outside of the choke lever; it has a small ball that pops into one of three holes, acting as a detent. If you're converting it for cable use, the detent and spring must be removed. I prefer to use it without a cable.

correct...
the cable in the top is for the slide ... throttle. the other cable on the side is the choke... a pumper carb dose not have a cable to oparate the pump " there's prob some chinese bit of junk that dose ".. What dose a pumper carb do ?... It gives a squirt of fuel into the motor when you twist the throttle to richen the mixture for faster throttle responce.... Injected motors like the RX3 have a closed & open circut they run on the closed circut but when the TPI sences a throttle movement it jumps the the richer open circut... so the pumper carb is a mechanical version of the closed/open circuts in a injected motor... For you RX3 owners heres a little trick so you can richen or lean the fuel mixture at the turn of a nob.... Put a 1 ohm pentometer in one of the wires to the air temp sencer in the air box.. then by turning the nob you can tell lies to the ECU about the air temp... tell it it's colder & the ECU will richen the mixture.. more power/use more fuel warmer & it will lean the mixture.. less power / use less fuel.. the ECU still works as normal but at a higher or lower range than what it normaly would with out the pentometer... The ECU will have built in peramitors that it can not go out side of no matter how big the lies are you tell it... no chance of doing the motor in... i have one on my XT660R..... .. ..
