New trim piece around the fog light on my brand new 2018 ST as i was going to my folks house and a tire tread flew off a semi in the next lane and smacked my wee car in the face.

Not too bad but dammit man, it was flawless. Now even with the trim it has some small dents and scratches to the plastic.

I will get the part next week hopefully.

Did not know of either of those ones actually. The one i was referring to was that some engines had left over machining debris in them that would plug up oil passages. So now it seems there are 3 possible causes of failure...

I didn't know about the machining debris. I learned a lot over on the Kia Soul forums about oil filter, oil leeching down the valves seals, oil mist from the crankcase vent, and baking on the valves.

The oil filter issue lead to a blown engine much as you describe. The owner changed his own oil and used Purolator filters. There is an internal check valve that holds oil pressure in the engine. Without it the engine starts dry and runs dry with no oil for a brief period. The colder it is, the longer it takes for the oil to get flowing into the system.

The oil coked valves causes a steady miss and check engine light. The remedy for it it a special set up that blasts the valves with walnut hulls while they are closed. Intake has to come off though. The long-term solution is removing the crankcase vent from the intake and routing it through a catch can along with religiously changing the oil every 3000 miles with a high quality nonsynthetic oil.

Ugggghhh Damn... Of course since there is no Kia dealer here i would not have known about the filter thing... Wonder if the Hyundai dealer would have known of it...the more i read the more i get tempted to try to trade it in again... Already said to the wife we may end up doing so. She would get my Patriot and i would probably try to get a new Nissan Titan. Ok...i may just start a thread on this in everything else or something when i get back to a Pc so we dont clutter up this thread with this saga..

Hyundai is the same with the same filters. My mom's car has the same engine our Soul has. I think she has an Elantra.

Mrs. C and I have been kicking around the idea of relocating. We went to an open house in a town about half hour SW of us but staying in the same county.

All we bought was lunch at Cracker Barrel, though.

Bought a new side skirt ($30) for Phoenix the CF Moto Fashion 250. I've gotten it running reliably and (really) fast so it's already become my winter warrior. I'm not sure if the scoot was designed to be a winter bike but it does the job better than my vintage Japanese bikes do! My GL1100 doesn't even want to start in this weather.

Next up will be getting smoked side visors and replacing the joke of a sound system for something I can actually connect my phone to.

I'm cold just looking at those pictures. lol Us southern folks aren't built for that kind of weather. I've had this sound system installed on my daughters UTV for 2 years. It's been in the rain and mud a few times and has worked flawlessly. You can connect direct or with Bluetooth,. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Renegades’ first oil change and tire rotation. Also, a co-pay for the grandchild induced sinus infection (still for sale). Doc says it’s about run it’s course and just keep doing what I’ve been doing, which is Advil, Tang, and Scotch.
