They are both. 1 1/8 in the center with 7/8 ends at the controls/grips.

I will say this, recording stuff and assembling adds about double the time to the job. Waiting on my video to export and then I can upload it to youtube.

Thumbs Up Cylinder Head Intall!s

I decided to take my mind off of wiring for a little bit and tackled installing my ported head.

After I got it all back together and spun it over slowly to make sure nothing bad was going to happen I installed my new spark plug and decided to give it a good kick or two. She definitely is a lot harder to kick over than my last one! Still not super hard, but it is definitely a noticeable increase in pressure.

I did a leakdown test to make sure all was good and sealed as well and she is good to go! I can't wait to start her up now. Just the motivation I needed to finish up. I also added this post to my resource guide under DIY/How-To so hopefully other people will find it helpful.

What did you use to replace the mounting bracket? Got a link? I will need to replace my Tusk risers also.

Are you talking about the original riser caps? I still have them, the adapters I have bolt in to the stock 7/8" bar location and then have a 1 1/8 mount.

I have two different types on hand. The current ones were a pair I bought but never installed on my Hawk, so I decided to try them this time around. This is the style I am currently using. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-Pa...ceBeautifyAB=0

The other style I have are the ones previously installed on my stolen bike. These replace the top caps. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Pro-...52884c4d8kixGS

I found the second set you had on the old Hawk. Which ones do you like more?

Another question what would you think about running both types of oil coolers at the same time? ie the head cover type and the other bottom filter adapter type.

Great videos Dan! Maybe in time a rear wheel / Front wheel / Grease sealed bearings video would be helpful to some new Hawk owners on here.

I just did mine along with swing arm after 1700 hard miles of mud water & sand also highway & lucky I checked because grease in bearings was very bad & swing arm had no grease at all.

Also replaced rear brake cylinder & pads which were toast.

Hi,
increase in pressure, only from head inlet and exhaust porting? or something else? Thanks!

The Pro Taper style are much simpler to install and work just fine. The current style I have installed are a little taller and a little more fiddley to install, but offer more adjustability in terms of bar distance from the rider and will likely have some give in a crash. In the end it just comes down to preference.

It might be, but that will be a "down the road" video for me. Surprisingly, for once, my wheel bearings are all good. I am sure that in a thousand miles or so they won't be, but for now they are.

The piston deck height is far more than .030" I didn't have my verniers on hand to measure the depth though.

Nice video Dan! it will have a little more thump to it at idle too. Well while you're putting you bike together I'm heading out for the day and put some miles on mine. I had to stop in and check on the progress. Lol

From decking the head I installed 1mm, which also had a shallower quench band milled into it than the stock head. If my measures and math are remotely accurate, I am sitting around 10.3:1 compression.

try shorting the header pipe...
on the TTR 5" /125mm shorter gives 1.5hp
with the standard muffer & 2.5 with the GYTR pipe..
lose a bit of bottom end but gain in mid to top...
being a everybodys trail bike they are tuned for a
good bottom to mid range power... pipe and air box opened
up and the TTR really takes off... the Hawk could be simluar..
being a 250 you tend to spend most of the time in
mid range revs and up... 3000 plus...

Dyno figgers...
